Colin Firth Turns Down Villain Role In Spike Lee's OLDBOY

Mandate will need to nab another villain fairly quick as the Oscar winning actor has officially passed on Spike Lee's remake of the Korean original..

Another one bites the dust. Last week Colin Firth confirmed that he was being courted to play the role of Adrian, the very sick and twisted villain in Oldboy, by Spike Lee and Mandate Pictures. Well they will have to look elsewhere because now..

Twitch has learned that Firth has now officially passed on the project meaning they need to find someone else to play opposite Brolin in what is being planned as an early 2012 shoot.

This movie, like another upcoming remake/adaptation of a Manga Akira, really seems to have no luck with nailing down a cast. Christian Bale was also wanted for this role, and a couple of months ago The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo's Rooney Mara declined the female lead. Could it be a sign of a dodgy script? Guess we will find out once a cast is sorted out and the movie is with us in late 2012/early 2013.

A man kidnapped and imprisoned on his daughter’s birthday is held captive for fifteen years. Upon his release he embarks on an obsessive mission to find the reason for his imprisonment and soon finds out that his kidnapper has plans for him more tortuous than solitary confinement.

I have no interest in seeing this. Spike Lee's movies are only good 1/5th of the time. And I hate the original, it was very predictable and a pain to sit through. Firth leaving is probably a good decision.

Imnotahero, you found Oldboy predictable? Woah! That ending really shocked me..and I'm pretty sure just about everyone else who watched it. You must watch some sick frackin movies if that one was the norm:)

@rormachine and nailbiter111 - 'Hey I have a daughter whom I haven't seen in years, she'd be about your age. Maybe I should look for her...NAH. Also its not weird that you are so attached to me seeing as we just met.' Watching that sex scene was horrifying. I felt like shouting at the screen: "You're both so stupid!".

The only Lee joint I didn't like was prob Mo Better Blues, and even that was decent. I think he's a frackin awesome director.

Damn, if he passed on the film this must mean the script isn't all that. But all in all, I'm still looking forward to this, and I really wanna what Spike Lee brings to the table.
