Real Steel Fights Its Way To The Top Of The US Box Office With $8.6 Million!

The Hollywood Reporter reveal that Real Steel, which stars Hugh Jackman, has fought its way to the #1 position at the US box office. The movie took $8.6M yesterday, although how well it ultimately does will depend on whether it can continue to attract an audience over the weekend. Apparently, it's currently headed for a $24M or $26M debut, a fair bit short of the predicted $30M+ opening. The site also reports that there's a chance it could push that figure upwards of $27M if families turn out in full force, and with a budget of $110M, Dreamworks must be keeping their fingers crossed that they'll make that up when it's released internationally over the coming weeks.

I knew it would make money. People love fighting robots, that's why Transformers makes so much money.

I'm surprised it has done so well. I haven't seen this but fighting robots just doesn't appeal to me anymore.

I haven't seen it yet, I'm hoping to sometime next week. Getting better reception than I initially expected. Plus I love Hugh Jackman AND Shawn Levy, a collaboration I'd love.

Take out the garbage.

I thought it was pretty good. Family fun, popcorn muncher, kind of like a new take on Rocky with robots thrown into the mix.

@Nolanite just so you know movies don't just make money in the first 2-3 days. It definitely should profit before it gets out of the theater. It cost about 110 to make.

Plus all those obsessed with how much a movie makes just sound like a bunch of Ferangii. Interesting factoid. The now classic It's a Wonderful Life was a big flop at the box office originally.

For those comparing it to Transformers the only simularity is robots hitting each other. The difference with Real Steel is it has good acting and a script that doesn't appear to be written by an video game maker and omg characters actually grow which is unheard of in Trsnsformers.

@Neobaggins 1) you sound rather "exciting" choosing taking out the trash over going to the movies. 2) The garbage trucks don't run on the weekeds
