ET Online reports that the Navajo Nation President and Vice President met with the two stars, along with producer Jerry Bruckheimer and director Gore Verbinski. All four were presented with traditional Navajo blankets as a good-will gesture.

Depp "was very gracious and respectful, along with very patient with picture taking," President Shelly told ET, adding, "It was a great honor and privilege to meet Johnny Depp and filmmaker Jerry Bruckheimer. We are honored the movie The Lone Ranger is being filmed here on the Navajo Nation. The Navajo Nation has beautiful landscape and we are glad it is being shared through filmmaking."

I'm pretty sure Armie Hammer was really hoping for a hit off of someone's peace pipe, but I'm sure he'll be happy with a blanket as well.

People also has a report on the special event.

Despite brisk, windy conditions, Depp posed for pictures, although when he was presented with the thick wool blanket he flung off the poncho he had been wearing and wrapped the blanket around his shoulders. "This is a good trade," he said.

Dr. Gayle Dine' Chacon, the nation's surgeon general, also presented Depp with a traditional leather warrior pouch, which was decorated with an arrowhead to symbolize protection.

And when she gave Hammer a tiny silver revolver tie tack set with a piece of turquoise, he reacted playfully. "He took out his gun from his holster and put the little gun inside," she says.

Johnny Depp spent over an over hour with the Navajo Nation, even as most of the crew had left the set. The actor was asked to be a spokesperson for Navajo Youth Suicide Prevention programs and graciously said yes.

The Lone Ranger will be released in theaters May 31, 2013. The film stars Armie Hammer as The Lone Ranger and Johnny Depp as Tonto. Also starring in the movie: Helena Bonham Carter, Tom Wilkinson, William Fichtner, Barry Pepper and Timothy Hutton.

The bird is a traditional headpiece for the Crow tribe... It's ceremonial, not something that's just worn around all the time.

WOW! Well any hate towards Depp as Tonto should disappear after this. I mean they don't just ask anybody to be aspokesperson for any of their organizations.

I hear Depp is basing his performance on the speech patterns and mannerisms of Scott Weiland

Dang most Navajos are short! I'm glad I'm one of the few tall ones out there. Also glad the damn bird isn't on Depp's head, looked downright ridiculous, even though it is accurate.

More shots of him wearing face paint. Not liking that at all. He made a big deal about how he would depicting Tonto in a non-stereotypical way and he is sporting the face paint in just about every image we have seen to date. That is about the most stereotypical and disrespectful way to to depict a Native American.

Tonto should ditch 'the Ranger' ...and open a freakin' casino. There's more than one way to scalp a pale face.

This is the most accurate depiction of Native Americans in a major film I've ever seen.
This scene is so powerful...

He looks more like a Lone Riverboat Gambler than a Lone Ranger. Just not getting this at all.

Why does the Lone Ranger have a suit on ALL the time... come on... please make him get jeans and regular cowboy shirt at some point in the movie.

Like in TheAmarilloBlack's pic, I think Depp's look is legit.

As for Lone Ranger, you DO realize what him and Tanto used to look like right?

They made Roy Roger's sing and Rodeo clown costumes look bad ass.

This is a step up in my humble opinion

Isn't this like sending Robert Downey jr in black face to a Naacp convention to promote Tropic Thunder? I mean...this is way tasteless isn't it?
