It seems as though Finding Dory just kept swimming until it reached the top! This past Friday the Disney/Pixar film earned an additional $6.283 million bringing its domestic total to $408.5 million. That was just enough for it to surpass Captain America: Civil War's domestic cume which is $406.2m. Finding Dory is expected to bring in another $20 million over the weekend, raising its domestic total to $422.2m. If these numbers turn out to be true, the Finding Nemo sequel will have a higher domestic total than every other animated film, except The Lion King ($422.7m) and Shrek 2 ($441m).

Even though Finding Dory is now the highest domestic film of 2016, it still has a long way to go if it wants to beat Captain America: Civil War's lifetime gross ($1.150 billion). With the animated sequel currently sitting at $603 million worldwide, it is more likely to pass Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice's worldwide total ($872 million), before its run comes to an end. Even so, I wouldn't count the blue tang fish out of it just yet! What do you think? Share your thoughts in the comments below.

I expect Finding Dory to drop about 50-plus percent this weekend considering everyone's already seen it and Secret Life of Pets is expected to do huge. Not that it matters, really.
