Director Brad Bird On The Chances Of A Sequel To THE INCREDIBLES

Director Brad Bird has once again been asked about the chances of a sequel to the Pixar movie but says the huge amount of superheroes dominating multiplexes may mean we'll be waiting a long time.

"It’s all of the above," Brad Bird told MTV News when asked whether he has got a script, page or even piece of concept art for a sequel to Pixar's 2004 movie. "I haven’t gotten it all figured out yet. I have a lot of ideas I had originally intended to be in the first movie, but you have to start throwing things out of the balloon to get it up in the air."

I love those characters, and if I could make one that was to ‘Incredibles’ what the ‘Toy Story’ sequels were to ‘Toy Story,’ I’d do it," he said, although he added that the large number of superhero movies currently being released may mean they'll wait a while just yet. It doesn’t encourage, as if what the world needs is another superhero sequel. That would never be the reason to do it anyways -- it would be the story."

However, he's not forgotten just how important The Incredibles has been, ultimately offering him the chance to helm Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol. "One of the interesting reactions to ‘Incredibles’ was that even though it was a superhero film, people got a sort of spy vibe from it. So people could tell that I liked spy films, and this was a great chance to do one."

Yeah if Cars can get a sequel, then Incredibles REALLY deserves one. But better to take their time than making it for money (aka Cars).

The longer he takes the harder it's going to be to put an original product out there. Incredibles helped launch superhero movies into the mainstream and truly believe if it wasn't for that film, we wouldn't be having Avengers next year.

I reckon the only reason Cars got a sequel that changed so much was because they felt the first one wasn't up to scratch and they wanted a second chance at getting it right. Guess we know now it just isn't a formula that works as well as the rest of Pixar's fare :P

Definitely needs a sequel, just hope it's more Toy Story 3 and less Toy Story 2.

Really loved the music in it. Still think the movie falls somewhere behind the Toy Story trilogy, Monsters Inc, Wall-E, Up and Finding Nemo in the Pixar canon.

Just make the freakin movie already. It doesn't take a genius to know it would be a successful movie.

The reason Cars got a sequel is that the toys from it remained as big sellers. Find a toy store of any size that didn't have a big Cars section near the Hot Wheels.

I wish a sequel to the Incredibles would be made, if they come up with a really good script that maintains the quality of the original.

The Incredibles is among the top animated features out there and why it wasn't given a sequel before now is beyond me. Instead,we keep getting shitty Toy Story and Shrek sequels. That's a damn shame!

THEY SHOULD BUT DO IT WHEN IT FEELS RIGHT AND NOT BECAUSE PEOPLE PUSH YOU INTO IT. THAT WAY IT WILL BE GOOD AND NOT FEEL LIKE OFF AN ASSEMBLY LINE WITH RE-USAGE OF JOKES AND CLICHE GIMMICKS.

I wish they made another one, the first one was really good! idk if i'd want the characters to be a little older or the same age though, it could be interesting to the see the baby the same age as dash and with alot of diff powers

@ mastyrwerk

Incredibles has nothing to do with bringing superhero movies to the masses or for the avengers that would be xmen and then spider-man

As much as I wanna see a sequel,I think its best that they don't rush into this and give us a terrible movie, when they can take their time and deliver us a great one like the first movie.

NOT FAIR!!! The fact that there are so many Superhero films out there should be why he SHOULD do it now! Strike while the iron is hot. I mean seriously they could come up with a great storyline. Hell lets move forward like 4 years and have an infant Jack Jack, Senoir in HS Violet, and Hs age Dash.

Cars got a sequel due to the lucrative amount of money Cars products made for Disney-Pixar.

It doesn't need a sequel, it stands perfectly well on it'd own. Plus we don't really need another Cars 2 do we?

I say, let Brad take his time. As Cars 2 demonstrated, and as said in Toy Story 2, you can't rush art. Hopefully we get a great film out of the deal, and I'd love to see Dash and Violet older and trying to strike out on their own as heroes, as well as Bob, Helen and Lucius dealing with how to reconcile superheroics with getting older (Bob might be about 50 or so by that time?)

There is a difference between 3 or 4 superhero movies a year and one GOOD superhero movie a year, and the Incredibles happen to be a GREAT movie!!!!

Like many here I just shake my head and wonder how a movie like "cars" can get a sequel yet "The Incredibles" has to wait or may never get one at all?

It just bewilders me

This is the guy who directed IronGiant one of the best animated movies ever. The Incredibles was a rare gem even among Pixar and Superhero movies.

This guy knows what he's doing, I can't wait for a sequel, I mean I still enjoy the first one like crazy, I watch it at least once a week. Also I can't wait to see the new Mission Impossible I know it's going to own with Brad behind it.
