POLL/DISCUSSION: The First Trailer For Marvel's ANT-MAN

The first teaser trailer for the Peyton Reed directed Ant-Man movie debuted at the end of Agent Carter's première last night. Though fairly brief, we did get quite a few shots of Paul Rudd suited up as the diminutive superhero. Let us know what you thought after the jump..

Last night the first teaser for Marvel's Ant-Man hit the interwebs with a resounding... meh? Personally I liked it, but there's no doubt the overall reaction was mixed -- especially when you take into account the usual fan-hype surrounding a Marvel movie trailer. We begin (as always) with a voiceover, pretty much confirming that Michael Douglas' Hank Pym will be recruiting Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) as the new Ant-Man. Lang has turned to crime (most likely in an attempt to help his sick daughter, Cassie), and Pym seems to be offering him a chance at redemption by becoming the hero his daughter "already thinks he is". We then get quick flashes of Corey Stoll as the villain of the piece (Darren Cross, who will be an incarnation of Yellowjacket) and Evangeline Lilly as Pym's estranged daughter, Hope van Dyne, who looks to be training Lang to better kick some supervillain ass. From there we see Lang in the Ant-Man costume (a bit goofy looking?), before he shrinks down and hitches a ride on the back of an ant as its wings make helicopter sounds.

The trailer adopts a surprisingly serious tone for the most part, with only a couple of flashes of humour as Rudd's Scott Lang baulks at the superhero name he's expected to take on. The marketing leading up to the trailer's release definitely suggested a bit more of a tongue-in-cheek vibe, and both Peyton Reed and the film's previous director Edgar Wright  (who wrote the first script draft, but that's now credited to Adam McKay and Paul Rudd) have backgrounds in comedy. Then again, so did the Russo brothers! I think it's safe to say we can expect quite a bit of humour, but at the end of the say this will inevitably fit the Marvel movie mould -- for better or worse. This was obviously just our first brief glimpse of Ant-Man, but from what you've seen so far, what are your thoughts? Vote below and be sure to sound off in the usual place.
