AVENGERS: DOOMSDAY - One Spider-Man Actor Confims He WON'T Return... But [SPOILER] Just Might

One Spider-Man: No Way Home actor has finally revealed that he not reprise his role as one variant of Peter Parker for Avengers: Doomsday, but we're hearing that another might...

Earlier today, The Amazing Spider-Man and Spider-Man: No Way Home star Andrew Garfield said fans would just have to wait and "find out" if he will return for Avengers: Secret Wars, but the actor was a lot more to the point when asked about Avengers: Doomsday.

Garfield was answering fan questions during a new video interview with GQ, and was asked if he will appear in next year's MCU event film.

“No, unequivocally, f*cking no!"

Denials don't get much more definitive than that, although we're sure some still won't believe him (we haven't forgotten those No Way Home denials, Andrew).

The actor was also asked who would win in a fight between his Spider-Man, Tobey Maguire’s and Tom Holland’s, but he declined to have any fun with his response: “We wouldn’t fight. We’re friends.”

The Amazing Spider-Man may not swing by for Doomsday, but what about the original big-screen take on the iconic Marvel Comics hero? Scooper MTTSH has hinted that we may see Tobey Maguire in the movie.

There's been some chatter about Sam Raimi potentially returning to direct his Spider-Man 4 with Maguire and Kirsten Dunst, so this wouldn't be outside the realm of possibility (we have also heard that Doomsday will feature a number of surprise cameos).

Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars were recently hit with significant delays, with Doomsday now set to arrive in theaters on December 18, 2026, and Secret Wars positioned for December 17, 2027.

Both movies will be directed by the Russo brothers, who also make their MCU return after helming Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame

"Being able to create stories and explore characters within the Marvel Universe fulfilled a life-long dream of ours, and we discovered a powerful connection with audiences in each film that we made. We’re thrilled to collaborate once again with Kevin, Lou and the entire Marvel team to bring this epic adventure in storytelling to new and surprising places for both the fans and ourselves”, said The Russos in a statement after the SDCC panel.

If I had to pick I'd much rather Maguire be the one interacting with the X-Men cast

@Wahhvacado - agreed. Even if for just a brief moment we get Toby and Hugh on the screen together.

I’m willing to bet both will be back for Secret Wars and one of them (Likely McGuire) will be a big central death.

Tobey with the original X-men and fantastic four would be so cool to see. Andrew doesn’t really lend himself to that Nolstagia.

So he's skittish when asked if he's in Secret Wars but says no when asked if he's in Doomsday.

He's in Secret Wars.

Doesn’t make too much sense for either of them to appear in Doomsday other than the briefest cameo (Secret Wars is a different story). But touching on the Sony movies is a very sensical idea; I just don’t see it being too relevant to this movie’s specific plot.

@IAmAHoot - A brief cameo showing there is A Spider-man in the Xmen universe one way or another is always possible, but wouldn't necessarily require any of the three actors for it IF only a fully suited up cameo thus stunt double could be used (with a Secret Wars end credit tacked on later revealing which).

The 616 version having any more than a cameo role was to me always unlikely due to filming schedules for Holland what with The Odyssey only finishing filming this Aug after starting in Feb, SM 4 starting filming in Aug and still ongoing all during the timeframe of filming Doomsday. Sure he could fit in SOME filming for the next Avengers film but with us closing in on them filming Secret Wars fully fast too...

...and that's without getting into the fact that currently nobody on 616 would know who to call to bring Peter Parker in as one of the team members even if likely at least SOME will find out who the main MCU Spider-man is again in his solo film.

I'd say he doesn't actually know if he's in SW as it's not even been filmed yet, whereas DD has.
I'd rather neither of them are in SW so that it doesnt take away anything from TH spidey getting the symbiote suit.

Andrew all day long and twice on Sundays, an incredible actor. Tobey, not so much. He's such a whiney voiced, wobbling bottom lip of an actor. I enjoyed the interaction between the three of them in NWH but Tobey's a make weight.

@FallenThomas - I'm OK with Tobey having a small role somewhere, but more to pass on HIS mantle to his daughter than still being his universes main Spider person, if he DOES suit up to me that would be likely for his death and becoming Maydays Uncle Ben.

Andrew all day long returning and maybe even finaly getting his own third solo film IF Sony tries one more time with their otherverse films.

@Apophis71 - whereas that's a nice comic storyline I don't see any market value in that passing of the mantle. We're likely to see Miles Morales in the next 2-3 years, I can't see the movie going public swallow multiple race/gender iterations of Spidey in any large scale, commercial way. The three worked in NWH, outside of animation, anymore just looks cynical and/or agenda driven to the average punter (only audience that actually counts).
Apophis71
Apophis71 - 10/10/2025, 8:48 AM
@FallenThomas - Oh I don't see a lot of chance of a live action Mayday AFTER Secret Wars, but an animated one is always possible and could see a market for that esp if completely unconnected to the live action stuff. I could see Sony want to set that potential up for something they could do post Spiderverse for instance.

It is more a case that is the only way I'd tend to be into much more Tobey as even tho I like his films more than Andrews I still like Garfield more in the role AND Maguire has pretty much retired from acting and not that keen on a Peter Parker in his 50's or beyond plus his injury in NWH should probably exclude him being able to return to his hero job.

Talking all things Spider heroes I've always been, beyond Peter Parker, more interested in seeing Disney and Sony sort out the stoopid legal issues preventing either doing the original Spider-Woman. Jessica Drew has a far more interesting history for me and if the rebooted (soft or hard) MCU has Hydra and Shield back to do her origin properly THAT would be the one I'd be up for more than a live action Miles (not that I have anything against him, loved the Spiderverse films just never read his comics to feel attached to him in any way).

Yeah , I didn’t expect him to be in Doomsday but Secret Wars on the other hand…
