While we await a second cast announcement (assuming Marvel Studios is still planning to make one), a couple of new rumors relating to Avengers: Doomsday are doing the rounds online.

Though some of this has previously been rumored, potential spoilers follow.

Chris Evans' return as Steve Rogers seems like the worst-kept secret in Hollywood at the moment, but the actor continues to deny his involvement in the next MCU event movie, claiming that he is now "happily retired."

"I mean, it's sad to be away. It's sad to not be back with the band, but I'm sure they're doing something incredible, and I'm sure it's going to be that much harder when it comes out and you feel like you weren't invited to the party," Evans said in a recent interview.

Well, Daniel Richtman is now reporting that Evans is definitely in Doomsday, and he will play a "major role in the story." The scooper also mentions that, aside from Evans, the "announced cast are the main players" in the film.

From what we can gather, Rogers will be targeted by Doctor Doom (Robert Downey Jr.) for causing the Multiversal incursion that led to the death of the villain's family.

Marvel is believed to be keeping (or attempting to, anyway) certain characters under wraps until audiences are sitting down to watch the movie, and Richtman claims that one of the "multiple cameos" will indeed be Ghost Rider.

We're not sure if this will be Nicolas Cage's take or a brand-new incarnation of the Spirit of Vengeance, but if the studio is planning to do more with this character down the line, the latter obviously seems more likely.

Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars were recently hit with significant delays, with Doomsday now set to arrive in theaters on December 18, 2026, and Secret Wars positioned for December 17, 2027.

Both movies will be directed by the Russo brothers, who also make their MCU return after helming Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame

"Being able to create stories and explore characters within the Marvel Universe fulfilled a life-long dream of ours, and we discovered a powerful connection with audiences in each film that we made. We’re thrilled to collaborate once again with Kevin, Lou and the entire Marvel team to bring this epic adventure in storytelling to new and surprising places for both the fans and ourselves”, said The Russos in a statement after the SDCC panel.

This has been a passion project for the Russo Bros for a long time. They'll put their heart and soul into it. All of their previous MCU outings were spectacular and I suspect no less for 'Doomsday'.

As fun as it would be to see Nic back as Ghost Rider, I think I'd rather a new actor take up the role if were getting more Ghost Rider in the future. If all its for is nostalgia, than bringing back Nic is fine by me!

@RedFury - I would rather we start getting new versions of characters post SW.

This saga has partly been a love letter to pre-MCU Marvel so I would rather see those versions one last time since it’s only for a movie or 2.

@RedFury - Any chance they snuck Ryan Gosling in and filmed a scene as Johnny Blaze before he started shooting his SW film? He’d be my pick for a new GhostRider

@RedFury - Unsure there is realy enough time in such a crammed cast to intro any new versions of any characters with the Avengers movies hence why they rushed out Captain Marvel prior to Endgame after dropping her intended intro in Age of Ultron for that exact reason.

I mean if we did get any recast characters I'd assume they would be implied as the exact same versions we've had prior due to not able to get the original actors back (such as with Storm on the Xmen side of things).

As such IF we are getting A Ghost Rider in one or more of the Avengers movies it should be one or more of the three we have already had in film and TV. THEN after Secret Wars we can have the full focus on a new Ghost Rider in an MCU solo film.

@RedFury - There's no reason it has to be a young guy though, most bikers are old farts.

And sitting on a bike isn't that hard.

I liked the additional world weariness in Cage's performance in the 2nd film compared to the first, be good to have a further progression of that.

Though he might not look like what people think JB should look like, I was buying the comic in the Whirlin' Don Perlin era when he was drawn in such a crude and basic way that really any actor would fit, and we fully expect characters to be de-gingerised anyway.

@TheVisionary25 - That's a smart way of looking at it. You're right that they might as well wait until after secret wars to introduce new versions of characters. That send off for actors in their past roles really does make sense. Then we can move on from the nostalgia cameos and ride the next wave of characters and stories.

Okay bring back Nic!

RedFury - 10/1/2025, 6:14 PM
@MuadDib - mine too, I think he would absolutely own that role.
RedFury
RedFury - 10/1/2025, 6:15 PM
@Apophis71 - a great point. It will absolutely be hard to introduce brand new characters without them seeming empty. So yeah might as well go with the nostalgia cameos, and give the characters their proper due after the reset.
RedFury
RedFury - 10/1/2025, 6:17 PM
@Corruptor - you know what you're right. While I think I would still prefer someone younger for longevity sake, it definitely doesn't have to be the case. And with a talent like Cage, I'd be okay if he stayed on as an older rider.

I don’t think we are getting anymore casting announcements since they likely want to keep as many surprises as they can and that the ones announced are the main players in the film which I’m down for.

I also think Evans is in the film but I’m moreso hoping as Captain Hydra rather then our Steve Rogers (though Doom going after people he feels caused the incursions is interesting).

Anyway in regards to Ghost Rider , I’m hoping we get both Nic Cage & Gabriel Luna riding on Battleworld!!.

@TheVisionary25 - I'd love to see a 'GHOST RIDER' anthology series, where every episode focused on a different version throughout the years, starting with the earliest one and finishing off with Robbie Reyes.

@TheVisionary25 - I always hated the idea of having Captain Hydra in the comics, he is one character where doing an evil version for me was too off putting to ever buy into as the only thing for me that ever made the character realy work was him being a kid who embodied all of the best of America. The evil version of Captain America thus should always be someone else entirely masquerading as Steve Rogers but isn't or Red Skull.

IOW not against a Captain Hydra but it shouldn't be Stever Rogers and shouldn't be Chris Evans playing him/whoever, many characters I can buy into an evil variant like Tony Stark for example, but not that one or Peter Parker.
TheVisionary25
TheVisionary25 - 10/1/2025, 3:34 PM
@Apophis71 - I could buy it given the circumstances

Like what if he was corrupted by Hydra after he was captured in the frozen tundra rather then Bucky?
Apophis71
Apophis71 - 10/1/2025, 3:49 PM
@TheVisionary25 - Brainwashed is the only way it ever works for me and would need to break from that mind control in relative short order, still don't like it specific to THAT character as some I NEVER like corrupted (least not for long anyway). I mean I am the same with Superman, OK doing the Superman 3 bit where under the influence of black Kryptonite but within that one story the REAL character needs to defeat/reject that darker side and return to a boyscout type almost pure hero sans the shade many tend to have.

Apophis71 - 10/1/2025, 6:12 PM
@TheVisionary25 - Most characters it is fair game, I have a very small list of more North Star like characters is all :D As in like maybe two each in DC and Marvel, the other one at DC being Wonder Woman that I never like seeing an evil version of and any corruption of them very short term.

The announced cast is your cast of heroes. anyone not announced other than potentially Chris Evans, purely for macguffin/catalyst reasons, will have cameos at best to set up Secret Wars.
