RUMOR: AVENGERS: DOOMSDAY Will Focus On Doctor Doom vs. [SPOILER], Not Mister Fantastic

The latest Avengers: Doomsday rumour reveals the main foe for Robert Downey Jr.'s Doctor Doom in the movie, and it seemingly won't be Pedro Pascal's Mister Fantastic. You can learn more after the jump...

When Marvel Studios announced the Avengers: Doomsday cast back in March, the four-hour video ended with chairs for Pedro Pascal and Robert Downey Jr. That led many fans to hope that the Russo Brothers were teasing plans for Mister Fantastic and Doctor Doom's relationship to be a big part of this story.

Victor Von Doom appeared in The Fantastic Four: First Steps' mid-credits scene, but as far as we're aware, Downey's Doom Variant has no history with Earth-828's version of Marvel's First Family.

That's come as a major disappointment to many comic book fans, and Avengers: Doomsday potentially being where this team first encounters Doom leaves a lot of great material on the page. Nothing is confirmed on that front, of course, and this new rumour may frustrate many of you.

According to leaker @variablelace, most of Avengers: Doomsday will revolve around Doctor Doom vs. Steve Rogers/Captain America. Later, scooper @MyTimeToShineH weighed in to say, "[Downey] and [Chris] Evans weren’t even going to be part of The Kang Dynasty, and now they’re not only back but will be the main focus of Doomsday" (various other sources have backed them up, as you can see below).

Based on previous rumours, Doom will arrive on Earth-616 looking to make Steve pay for travelling back in time to get his happy ending with Peggy Carter at the end of Avengers: Endgame.

Apparently, messing with the timeline to that extent caused the Incursion that not only destroyed Doom's world, but perhaps even set off a chain reaction destined to end with the Multiverse's demise. Fans have spent years saying they wanted to see what happened to Cap at the end of Avengers: Endgame, and Doomsday will seemingly fulfil that wish.

It coming at the cost of Doom's rivalry with Reed Richards is bound to be an issue for some, and it may not be the only Fantastic Four-related let-down. We've heard chatter that, in Avengers: Doomsday, at least, there will be no Spider-Man/Human Torch action.

Avengers: Doomsday officially stars Chris Hemsworth, Anthony Mackie, Winston Duke, Tom Hiddleston, Sebastian Stan, Letitia Wright, Paul Rudd, and Robert Downey Jr. Wyatt Russell, Simu Liu, Tenoch Huerta Mejia, Florence Pugh, Danny Ramirez, David Harbour, Hannah John-Kamen, and Lewis Pullman all make their Avengers franchise debuts in the movie.

The Fantastic Four: First Steps leads Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, and Joseph Quinn join them, as do X-Men franchise stars Kelsey Grammer, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Alan Cumming, Rebecca Romijn, James Marsden, with Deadpool & Wolverine star Channing Tatum.

The Russo Brothers direct the movie from a screenplay by Stephen McFeely, with whom they previously collaborated on the Avengers and Captain America franchises. Loki and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness's Michael Waldron is also working on the script.

Avengers: Doomsday is set to be released on December 18, 2026, with Avengers: Secret Wars scheduled to arrive on December 17, 2027.

I’m sure it will be fine and there will be some rivalry and sharing of the screen between Doom and Reed Richards. Relax, Josh.

@Jackraow21 - It will be thin because it has to be thin. They have no on screen history that we are privy to. They never built it up and so utilizing Chris Evan's Cap against a Iron Man variant simply works better for audiences who have seen this story unfold since the beginning.

@Jackraow21 - I'm sure there is a way they could do both. Give RR a collage backstory with Doom in the FF universe before making Cap the focus. If they ignore that, it will be a missed opportunity.

No way they don’t pay homage atleast somewhat to Reed and Doom. But general audiences are more invested in Steve Tony dynamic

@XelCorp - general audiance as us older fans or new fans know nothing about comic books who became fans thanks to movies not comics video games and cartoons and toys

I thought we already knew this since Doom going after Steve for (inadvertently) causing the incursion that possibly destroyed Doom’s world and killed his family has been the prevailing rumor for awhile now.

If true this would be disappointing since I feel having Pedro and RDJ as their respective versions of Reed & Victor at the center if Doomsday conflict could be fun…

However the bigger issues imo is that this also might show a lack of faith in regards to the other heroes if the Russos & co go back to focusing on Evans & Downey considering they were the anchors of the MCU till EG (though granted I say that as someone who has enjoyed/liked Phase 4-6 more then some overall).

Anyway I’m holding out hope this is false but I can see it not being given the Russo’s involvement which makes me nervous (and I’m already very much so for this film) so fingers crossed!!.

Looking forward to a first meeting with Cap and Cyclops. They need to have a specific scene for that. Though it's reported the Xmen and Avengers first interaction will be in conflict. At least a friendly conversation between them.

I know people hate it, but Steve going back in time to with Peggy always rubbed me the wrong way, so I'm happy it seems to be revisited now.

All the rules they established from time travel to Caps established moral compass, that decision betrayed his character.

Cap would never decide the job is done

@SATW42 - I also think Cap having to realize he [frick]ed up and made a mistake is super interesting.

He was "right" in Civil War, he wasn't right in this case. It's interesting that the guy whose always on the right side is gunna have to deal with not being right.

@SATW42 - I get yah

Plus I like how I think it was Markus & McFeely who said that Steve and Tony had kinda opposite arcs in that the former would become more selfish then selfless and the latter vice versa which admittedly is a more satisfying arc then someone become the opposite like Steve did…

However I feel it all goes back to AOU where essentially the question posed to Steve via the Wanda mind[frick]ery is can he live without a far which EG to me proves that he can hence I find it to be a satisfying ending for the character thus wouldn’t want him back.

@TheVisionary25 - That's a fine justification, but still, Cap decided Thanos was a final threat and the world could live without him now, essentially retiring.

Cap would never do that, and making that a mistake I think is the perfect way to reintroduce him.

Getting a life like Tony talked about could've easily been doing the mission and then finding a balance, like Tony did for the 5 years during the blip.

Tony sticking his head in the sand for 5 years and living in the woods with Pepper and his daughter, that makes sense.

Cap going back in time and sticking his head in the sand for the rest of his life makes zero sense.

@SATW42 - I get your point to an extent aswell

I still think it works as the characters arc given his longing for Peggy and his old life aswell at times and I do think Steve would have the confidence in his friends to be able to handle a situation if it came up but it does seem like an end of the franchise move more then an end of a chapter like EG was.

Chris Evans being in this movie is almost on the level, now, of Cumberbatch absolutely playing Khan.

I really do hope we get some allusions or history to a rivalry between Reed & Victor , whether the latter is from Earth 828 or not..

I honestly do give Marvel slack to an extent about this since it wasn’t their original plan obviously and due to various things , they had to pivot hence us getting this now instead of Kang Dynasty (which I still wish we saw but oh well)

Anyway as nervous as I am about the film , I am also excited aswell to hopefully get some fun character interactions that we haven’t had yet aswell as see RDJ’s take on Dr Doom so hope it turns out well!!.

I do hope we get closure on the whole Kang council stuff…

They could say that the TVA successfully hunted them all or have Doom kill them to assert him as a threat to the characters & audience.

love how mttsh goes from Marvel made a massive mistake getting rid of RDJ/Evans to omg they have to move on. Didnt they do that for 6 years and all you do is complain about everything? Now its a problem they are trying to go back to that nostalgia well.

This is what all you MCU fanboys who were defending Iron Man 3 deserve. You let the MCU think that it's okay to botch hero-villain rivalry. Now eat the fruits of your labour.
