Thanks to the coronavirus pandemic, Harley Quinn: Birds of Prey was released on VOD a little over one month after its arrival in theaters. However, just two weeks after that early debut, Cathy Yan's girl gang movie has slashed its rental price ahead of Easter celebrations over the weekend.
After originally being priced at $19.99, you can now rent Birds of Prey for as little as $5.99.
For the most part, major Hollywood blockbusters hold off on reducing rental prices for at least a month, so this strategy for the latest DC Extended Universe film is actually unprecedented.
On the plus side, it's one that's paying off for Warner Bros. as the Margot Robbie-led feature is now at the top of the rental charts on iTunes. It was at #2 when it was initially released, but quickly fell down the charts the following week. With this move, the studio is ensuring it flies back on to people's radars.
Harley Quinn: Birds of Prey earned $202 million at the global box office on a reported budget of $80 - $100 million, but that's not enough for a sequel unless these VOD sales go through the roof.
If you haven't had chance to watch the film however, this weekend might be the perfect chance!
