Given the response to Black Panther earlier this year, you'd think that it was a guaranteed cert for a Best Picture nomination at next year's Academy Awards but that seems highly unlikely considering the fact that superhero movies are so often snubbed. On the plus side, Marvel continues to produce critical and commercial hits, and with a dedicated fanbase, Kevin Feige isn't sweating a lack of awards.
"Maybe it’s easy to dismiss VFX or flying people or spaceships or billion dollar grosses," the Marvel boss explaining, reflecting on a decade without any major awards attention. "I think it is easy to say that you have already been awarded in a certain way. Hitchcock never won best director, so it’s very nice, but it doesn’t mean everything. I would much rather be in a room full of engaged fans."
A number of MCU movies have managed to score Oscar nominations (in relatively minor categories) but they've still never walked away with one...unlike the DCEU, which scored a Best Makeup award for Suicide Squad. Regardless, it's good to hear that Feige values the fans more than little golden trophies and it's going to be very interesting seeing how Avengers: Infinity War and Black Panther fare next year.
