Kevin Feige Explains Why Captain America Won't Be Seen As Just A "Flag Waver"

There have been those that worried about how Joe Johnston's movie would go down in certain areas of the world. Marvel head honcho Kevin Feige explains; Even though Cap will be wearing the flag, doesn't mean he will be waving it. Mild Spoilers ahead..

Total Film's Captain America: TFA coverage is interesting, but sadly there isn't to much that we haven't heard before. One thing that caught me eye was Kevin Feige explaining the difference between the jingoistic flag waver some people may expect Cap to be, and the reality of how the character will be portrayed in the movie. Some mild plot

"When you watch the first act of the film, it's our hope that you will connect with the scrawny Steve, so that by the time he puts on the costume you already love the character, the individual."

The costume Cap wears is without a doubt an American symbol, and we know that at one point Rogers will be used to boost the troops' moral in a USO show. A danger then of him being seen as just propaganda. But Feige says that these concerns and that conflict were made sure to be instilled in the character. He also hints at a plot point while he is at it..

"In a lot of ways the movie is about Steve struggling with "Am I just a propaganda figure?" But there is a very big turning point where he goes against a direct order to do something which he believes is right, which brings him into conflict with the Government.

For the full Cap coverage check out the latest issue of Total Film, on sale now. Captain America: TFA hits theaters July 29.

So you may be an individual who doesn't see eye to eye with who America may be currently. Okay, I get that a lot of folks are unhappy with the way thing are. I'm not pleased as punch either. I'm not sure if any of them in Washington, whether you have a (D) or an (R) at the end of your name, truly has Joe Schmoes best interest any more. Too much infighting... To much weirdness on both sides.... However, I defy anyone to watch, say, the complete Band of Brothers mini series and come away thinking that our American soldiers weren't anything less than awe inspiring, real life heroes to much of the free world. If Cap'n A is a fictional personification of who those men were and what motivated them then let's get ready to cheer for an American hero once again.

Doesn't matter what the press says. Doesn't matter what the politicians or the mobs say. Doesn't matter if the whole country decides that something wrong is something right. This nation was founded on one principle above all else: the requirement that we stand up for what we believe, no matter the odds or the consequences. When the mob and the press and the whole world tell you to move, your job is to plant yourself like a tree beside the river of truth, and tell the whole world - "No, you move."

- Cap!

These are dark and desperate times. I know that some of you are afraid. It's alright. It's perfectly natural. But I want you to know that I am not. I am not afraid to die this day because what we do here is necessary. It may seem impossible, our enemies may appear to be endless, but that doesn't matter. Because there is no one else. Look at me. I believe in an idea, an idea that a single individual who has the right heart and the right mind that is consumed with a single purpose, that one man can win a war. Give that one man a group of soldiers with the same conviction, and you can change the world.
- Captain America again!

Rokker when I think of a liberal I think of the tards after 9 11 crying b/c we were going after alqaeda in A stan. No they were not on the news crying for the 3,000 Americans that were killed. You want to talk about tolerance that is a joke. Liberals are not tolerant. They only apreciate there view. You are a sheep. Just be glad there are still tough men that will go out and defend your right to be a liberal POS. Oh and time to move out of your moms basement. While you were busy reading cap comic books I was in Iraq providing you with your nice warm blanket of freedom. You failed to grasp what I was saying as well. Hollywood is filled with America hating liberal D bags trying to push there tard views. Like I said its Captain fricking America. If some muslim in Jibalibamabadibad gets upset b/c its pro America good!

FIEGE YOU IDIOT CAPTAIN AMERICA WAS A PURE PROPAGANDA TOOL MENT TO INSPIRE AMERICANS TO SUPPORT THE KILLING AND TOTAL DESTRUCTION OF THE AXIS OF EVIL IN WW2. THE REASON WE WON THE WAR IS BECAUSE WE WERE WILLING TO BOMB BERLIN AND TOKYO TO THE GROUND AND WE DIDNT GIVE A CRAP ABOUT COLLATERAL DAMAGE. AS MUCH AS THE PC LIBERALS TRY TO MAKE CAP LESS THAN THE IMBODIEMENT OF THE FLAG AND AMERICA THEY CAN NEVER TAKE AWAY WHAT HE WAS ORIGINALLY MEANT FOR AND THAT WAS TO INSPIRE AMERICANS AND THE SOLDIERS TO KICK ASS. THE PROBLEM I HAVE WITH LIBS IS IF SOMEONE BREAKS INTO THERE HOUSE THEY ASK WHY HE IS THERE AND WHAT DID I DO TO YOU TO MAKE YOU THIS WAY EVEN THOUGH THEY HAVE NEVER MET IN THER LIVES.

We're talking about Captain AMERICA here people. He stands up for what's right no matter the cost. That's what the United States of America does as well. Some of you can't see that, and that makes me sad to think that idiots like Mondragon, Nomis and Captain Prog don't see all the good this country does for the rest of the world. All they see is how the leftists media around the world portrays us. I know our country is going through a very rough spot right now due to the "leadership" we are currently being forced to endure, but this country is still the greatest on the the face of this planet. Just look at how neighbors are helping neighbors right here at home after all of the natural disasters we've endured recently. I think a little American "propaganda" could help the rest of the world.

@EastcoastAvenger - Agreed.
ManThing

hahahahaah what a bunch of bullshit. Captain America has NEVER been "just a flag waver." He's a righteaous man, and a great hero and YES he's also a "flag waver."

I know in the liberal media induced madness of today's world, there's supposed to be something worng with that, but there mother[frick]ing isn't!

People are SO BRAINWASHED that they are just permanently stuck with this insane mentality that somehow flag waver = dupe.
That if you love your country and don't keep it to yourself then somehow that automatically makes you just a mindless bovine robotic follower that agrees with everything the government does

gheyman, you are an imbecile of the highest caliber. That's no knock to fellow board members who happen to be republicans.this man represents the worst of you. We are all Americans (except thos who aren't)I wouldn't want to be born anywhere else. However, more importantly we are citizens of this same planet and have to come together to face the perils that no doubt await this planet. So later for that cowboy bullshit.
