Kitchy Catwoman Dies at 81

Singer/Actress Eartha Kitt, who was the first African American (before Halle Berry) to play Catwoman in the corny 60's Batman TV series, died on Christmas day at age 81. Ironically, she is best known for the holiday hit "Santa Baby".

Kitt, who had recently been treated for cancer at Presbyterian Hospital in New York, succumbed to the disease on Thursday.

According to her official website, Eartha Kitt is "one of only a handful of performers to be nominated for a Tony (three times), the Grammy (twice), and Emmy Award (twice)."

As a singer, Eartha Kitt boasted a highly distinctive voice with which she scored a number of hits, including "C'est si bon," "Just an Old Fashioned Girl," "Let's Do It," "Love for Sale," and the "Tribes of Africa", for which she was nominated for a Grammy award.

As the villainous Catwoman on the campy "Batman" TV series of the late 60s, she owned the role with her one-of-a-kind "purrrrfect" growl.
