AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #24 Delivers Big Mary Jane Twist As Writer Zeb Wells Admits #26 Will Upset A Lot Of Fans

In recent issues of Amazing Spider-Man, Marvel Comics has finally shed some light on what happened to end Peter Parker and Mary Jane Watson's relationship (and alienate the web-slinger from his fellow superheroes).

After the villainous mathematician Benjamin Rabin returned following his debut in 2008, he enacted a plan to take revenge on Peter and merge himself with the Mayan God Wayep. That involved pulling Spidey into an apocalyptic alternate version of New York City where MJ was left stranded alongside a survivor called Paul, though time in that reality moves much quicker.

As a result, when the web-slinger was sent back to Earth-616 and MJ found herself stranded, what felt like weeks for him have, in fact, been years for her.

That would explain what happens in Amazing Spider-Man #24 today; finally reunited with MJ, the hero learns that she has a new family, with it now clear those are indeed her children. There's always a chance Marvel Comics will reveal she's just brought Paul's kids up after his previous partner died, but all signs point to her being a mother now.

Amazing Spider-Man #25 will reveal what happened to MJ during her time spent in that dimension, but issue #26 looks to be the true game-changer. Marvel Comics is teasing the death of a major character and, as you can see from the cover below, continues to release imagery that ties into Gwen Stacy's tragic demise.

Talking to Popverse about the issue, writer Zeb Well said, "I can tease that many people will be very mad at me. I can tease that [editor Nick Lowe] told me not to do any comic conventions after this issue comes out. People will be upset."

They're either killing MJ or bringing Gwen back. Whatever the case may be, we'll be keeping you updated in the weeks ahead.
