The majority of movie studios, including Marvel Studios, might be giving Comic-Con a miss, but there's still plenty of comic book news coming out of San Diego.

Marvel Comics may have just stolen the show, however, by announcing that Batman artist Greg Capullo is making his long-heralded return to the publisher later this year. He relaunched the Dark Knight alongside Scott Snyder to kick off "The New 52" in 2011 and has since become a mainstay of that title.

However, he catapulted to stardom after his acclaimed work on X-Force in the 90s and is now back at Marvel for the first time in decades. It's unclear what the plan is for him moving forward, but he's being welcomed back into the fold with a couple of incredible variant covers.

His first new work for Marvel Comics is a variant for Wolverine #37, though Capullo will also provide an action-packed cover for a special one-shot this November, Deadpool: Seven Slaughters #1.

In that, we'll witness seven kills in seven days as fan-favourite Deadpool creators past and future, including co-creator Rob Liefeld, Gail Simone, Cullen Bunn and more, welcome readers to a week in the life of Wade Wilson, the best mercenary Marvel's ever had...in Wade Wilson's opinion.

From facing off with an all-new rival killer to top secret assassinations to multiverse shenanigans, Deadpool will have a lot of work to do in a blood-soaked oversized collection of seven stories as Deadpool takes one thrilling mission after the next.

Elsewhere at the event, new details were revealed about the 10th anniversary of Superior Spider-Man. Following the recently announced Superior Spider-Man Returns one-shot, it's now been confirmed an ongoing series will follow from Dan Slott and Mark Bagley.

It's said we should prepare for a "Superior Reckoning" as Otto Octavius faces a brand new villain from his Superior past. As she fries New York with all the power of a living star, Doc Ock makes a life-changing discovery in this celebration of everything that made his Spider-Man "Superior."

Check out Capullo's covers, along with Bagley's latest Spidey art, below.
