At the beginning of Zeb Wells and John Romita Jr.'s Amazing Spider-Man run, it was established that Peter Parker did something that alienated him from his friends, family, and fellow heroes. We know he stole from the Fantastic Four, teamed up with Norman Osborn, and found himself at the heart of some sort of massive explosion, but what the heck happened?
Answers are on the way and, as expected, it seems Mary Jane Watson will be at the heart of those.
When Nick Spencer wrapped up his time working on Amazing Spider-Man, Peter was getting ready to propose to MJ. Given their deal with Mephisto, fans have questioned how that's possible, and we've since seen that she's found a new man and is acting as a mother to his two children.
We can only assume that's tied to whatever the web-slinger did, and the blurb from Marvel Comics reads: "This May, Zeb Wells and John Romita Jr.’s run of Amazing Spider-Man reaches a startling unexpected climax and conclusion of its first year! Don’t miss two over-sized, monumental Amazing Spider-Man issues with #25 and the heartbreaking #26!"
What's really interesting about this is the fact the story is billed as "The Most Shocking Issue Of Amazing Spider-Man In 50 Years." That has to be a reference to Gwen Stacy's death and is a bold proclamation by the publisher.
It's hard to say what could be even bigger and more shocking than that, but this could be a game-changer for Spider-Man that forever changes his status quo. It also sounds like the plan is for Wells and Romita Jr. to remain on the series, news we're sure many of you will welcome (even if the former somewhat dropped the ball with Ben Reilly in Dark Web).
We're sure you'll also notice that these covers pay homage to Spider-Man: Blue #2 and Amazing Spider-Man #121!
