Comic-Con To Remain In San Diego Until 2016

With the event getting bigger and bigger as each year passes, it was thought organisers behind the Comic-Con International might be lured away to bigger convention centers in Anaheim or Los Angeles. Well, it has now been confirmed that they will be staying in San Diego until at least 2016.

The Los Angeles Times reports that the organisers of the Comic-Con International have agreed to extend their contract with San Diego Mayor Jerry Sanders to continue using the waterfront convention center for one more year (taking them up to 2016). This comes after an intense bidding war with Los Angeles and Anaheim; both of which who have larger convention centers than San Diego and have been trying to attract the event to their respective cities since 2010. It's unsure now what will happen after their current contract expires, but San Diego city officials have reportedly approved a $520-million expansion of the convention center to keep Comic-Con and other big-ticket conventions from departing.

Want to go comic con so bad, it's just to expensive for us Brits and I've got student loans to pay off so not for a few years :(

SD is MUCH nicer than anaheim or LA. i just hope they can expand large enough to accommodate enough guests that the ticket buying experience isn't a nightmare. I'd gladly trade a crappier location for a larger convention center that allows 2-3X more ticket sales if the sales keep being limited by the venue at SD.

I am from LA, & the LA Convention Center is run like shit. If any of the the SDCC organizers read this, know that if you moved the Con to LA you would deal with a union-intensive environment, aka what you need done will not get done.

SDCC blows! They always sell out and it is impossible to get in! If it was in LA it would be so much better! Bigger airport (LAX) so people could fly in. Bigger venue so more people can get in. And plenty of accommodations! I don't see why San Diego insists on keeping it if they obviously cannot handle so many people! Every year thousands of people are left out of the event and they have yet to make any modifications to accommodate. Thankfully Long Beach is finally doing a 2 day Comic Con in Nov so people that can't get tickets or don't want to make the trek can also enjoy. I went to Long Beach Comic Con last year and it was really cool.

I have been at SDCC for 2008-2010 and as an exhibitor for 2011 - Its the Mecca of pop culture goodness and ultra exclusives. However the pre-registration process is a nightmare just to get tickets and finding hotel accomdations that dont break the bank is a joke. Its fun but crazy expensive. I dropped 1K just on the hotel and gas

Enough of san diego, no way the cost is worth driving for hours just to be smashed against a million other fanboys just to watch exclusive teasers. Just give it to LA. The parking might be a bitch but there is more room and it's less of a pain in the ass to get there. Plenty more to do outside of the convention center also...Man I hope Comickaze gets big. And stays pure. Comic con looks more like a network upfront now.

One thing I can say about SDCC, there are more hotter cosplay girls than any other ComicCon I've been too.

I went to Anaheim's WonderCon last year and I gotta say it was huge. If SDCC's area is smaller than Anaheim's but has double the attendance, then that is way too many people for one area. I recommend going to WonderCon. I had a blast, met Jim Lee, Stan Lee, Michael Strazynski(?? SP), Mike Mignola, and Lou Ferrigno to name a few.

I wish it was in New York though. It's be so much easier to get to for me.

I really wanna go the year they announce JL news or have footage.

I'm only 7 hours away from San Diego and I haven't even been to SDCC yet.

I'm planning to move down there soon, so I'll be checking it out next year.

Good news but they better follow through on the expansion because its getting harder and harder to get a ticket.Since I went this year,I got first crack for 2013 and was able to buy tickets.Can't say thats fair because those who got screwed last year get screwed again.

I suggest WonderCon since it appears to be relocated to Anaheim for good.
I went to my first WonderCon this year in Anaheim and had a great time.

Sure it was a rainy day but the event itself was a less stressful version of San Diego and tickets were for sale right up till the weekend of the show.There were plenty of comic venders and less crush of people which led to a better shopping experience.

Also Hollywood is taking a interest in WonderCon and getting into the panels was a breeze. Give it a shot in 2013 people.

Thank god for that!!! I live in the UK so going to SDCC is an expensive afair...at least now i still have a chance to save up for it!!!
