Oppenheimer star Cillian Murphy was among the many actors who auditioned for the lead role in Christopher Nolan's Batman Begins. While the Caped Crusader was ultimately played by Christian Bale, Murphy impressed the filmmaker enough to be cast as the demented Scarecrow.

Many fans would like to see Murphy return to the comic book realm, and his name frequently comes up in discussions about who should play the MCU's Doctor Doom.

During a recent interview with Happy Sad Confused, the Irish actor was asked whether he's satiated his superhero movie craving by playing Jonathan Crane and if he's open to one day playing Victor Von Doom.

"Yeah, I think you’ve answered the question. Yeah, I mean, I’m always...it’s always about the script," Murphy explains. "So, I’ll read...If someone sends a script, I’ll read it. And you never know what turns up."

"That’s what I love about this business. I had no inclination or no idea that that [Christopher Nolan] was going to call me about all of this with. It just happens and that’s that’s the kind of the beauty of this business. It’s so unpredictable and wild."

In 2016, Murphy was a little more critical of the genre and said that, while his kids love Marvel movies, "I don't watch them."

We're not sure whether he's changed his stance on returning to the genre or whether he just didn't want to tie himself to a role he's not particularly interested in, but Murphy would be a fantastic Doom in Fantastic Four. However, it's a role which any actor will need to be brave to take a crack at.

After all, the previous versions we've seen on the big screen have not been good and Doom is an iconic enough villain to bring an awful lot of expectations and baggage along with him. Still, we think Murphy would excel.

Fantastic Four is set to be released in theaters on February 14, 2025.
