Writer/director James Gunn has said on several occasions that we will not see Thanos in next summer’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2. However, according to Zoe Saldana, the mad titan will have a presence that’ll be felt through his adopted daughters Gamora and Nebula.

“You will begin to get a glimpse of how terrible life must have been [...] to grow up with a crazy stepfather (Thanos) through Nebula,” she told IGN during press for Star Trek Beyond. “Nebula is still in that teen-y, f#cking hateful sh#t! She’s just resentful and bitter. Gamora, everything she does is trying to gain redemption for what she had done before. That is where you are going to find her and then, obviously, their relationship is very volatile”

It’s been implied Nebula will become a new member of the Guardians of the Galaxy, but it was seemingly confirmed with the recently-released concept art. But judging by what Zoe Saldana is saying, the blue-hued villainess may not be a teammate for the entire movie.

“We’re starting somewhere very crazy but appropriate given where we had ended things off in the first installment. So Thanos is definitely spoken about – not highly,” she added. Anyhow, Zoe Saldana also confirmed that she will be attending San Diego Comic-Con next week for Marvel’s Hall H panel which highlight the Guardians sequel, among other flicks.

Directed and written by James Gunn, Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2 stars Chris Pratt (Star-Lord), Zoe Saldana (Gamora), Dave Bautista (Drax), Bradley Cooper (Rocket Raccoon), Vin Diesel (Groot), Karen Gillan (Nebula), Sean Gunn (Kraglin), Pom Klementieff (Mantis), Elizabeth Debickiwith (Ayesha), Tommy Flanagan (Tullk), Chris Sullivan (Taserface), and Michael Rooker (Yondu) with Glenn Close (Nova Prime) and Kurt Russell. And with principal photography well underway in Atlanta, Georgia, Volume 2 is set for release on May 5, 2017.
