Room 237 - Movie Review

Room 237 - Movie Review

Room 237 is a subjective documentary that explores the numerous theories about the hidden meanings within Stanley Kubrick's film The Shining. The film may be over 30 years old but it continues to inspire debate, speculation, and mystery. Five very different points of view are illuminated through voice over, film clips, animation and dramatic reenactments. Together they'll draw the audience into a new maze, one with endless detours and dead ends, many ways in, but no way out.

Room 237 is a look into "the tide of terror that swept America" that is Stanley Kubrick's 'The Shining'. The Shining is one of my favorite movies. It's a movie that I think about all the time, and of course I'm not the only one. We've all heard the outrageous theories, but Room 237 takes these theories and shows you a side to the classic horror that you always knew was there. The veil is lifted as we are given five very different insights to the film from five different people who all watched the same movie, but experienced something different. Now, Room 237 is more about what went into the making of The Shining than the story itself. Don't expect the questions you always had about the movie's twists and turns to be answered here. Instead, after seeing Room 237, you will go back and watch The Shining with a completely different mindset. Some revelations in Room 237 may not correspond with you immediately, but you are guaranteed to have at least one revelation stay with you and tantalize you as its meaning becomes more and more clear. Overall, Room 237 is a must-see for anyone who is a fan of The Shining or the film industry in general. Either way, Room 237 will demand repeat-viewings as soon as the credits roll, and may even spook you as much as The Shining first did.
