Good news Supernatural fans! The CW has confirmed that the show will be back for an eighth season, with Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki also signed up to return as Dean and Sam Winchester respectively. Following the news last month that Sera Gamble would be stepping down for Jeremy Carver to take over as showrunner, another season already seemed likely, but this obviously confirms it. E! Online reached out to Misha Collins (Castiel) earlier today about whether or not he'll also return. He said, "I would love to see Cas come back. It's been such a fun show to work on and such a fun character and such a fun fandom to be immersed in. All and all, if there is some way to work out for Cas to come back that'd be great." Jim Beaver (Bobby) added, "I hope he's [Jeremy Carver] a good boss...by which I mean I hope he figures out a way to use me a whole bunch!"

Hopefully the 8th season will be better. I'd be okay if they folded the show after this.

As glad as i am to see this show back, i feel it's starting to drag a little with them running out of idea's to a degree, don't get me wrong i love the show it's just......how much longer can they keep it feeling fresh and different? season 7 hasn't exactly been up to the usual standard.

This season has been the worst by far. I'm glad theyve got at least one more season to redeem themselves.

Should have been cancelled after season 3. Supernatural is just not what it used to be.

Well, hopefully Nikita will be renewed. Now that's a good show.

I really liked the first 2 seasons of Being Human US and Jeremy Carver was previously the showrunner for that show. He was also a writer and producer during Supernatural's 3-5 seasons, so he could revitalize the series creatively, while bringing some old school flavor to it.

@TheBlackWidow

AGREED.

Anything more is canon fodder, meant to pad CW's wallet.

Though I still watch it, from time to time.

They shouldve ended the show at season 5. Perfect, tragic ending. It wouldve been a legendary show that left the fans wanting more, now it will fade away until cancellation.

Season 5 was supposed to end it they dragged it on now if it would get back to its roots instead of the way it is with another big baddie every season, I mean how do you get bigger than Satan himself.

I Love the show but it deserves a good ending so I would rather see them end it at theend of the 8th to avoid dragging it through the mud

@Ha1frican, yeah, it does deserve a good ending and probably should bow out at the end of season 8, but I really want it to beat Charmed.

Charmed is currently the longest running American supernatural/fantasy series, with 8 seasons and 178 episodes.

After next season, Supernatural will have 8 seasons and 171 episodes. The Writer's Strike robbed it of 6 episodes. If not, they could have at least tied.
