THE DARK KNIGHT Star Christian Bale Is Frankenstein In Wild First Trailer And Posters For THE BRIDE!

We finally have the first trailer for The Bride!, filmmaker Maggie Gyllenhaal's take on the classic tale revolving around Frankenstein (Christian Bale) making himself an undead companion (Jessie Buckley).

From Maggie Gyllenhaal (the Academy Award-nominated writer and director of The Lost Daughter, who many of you will likely also remember from The Dark Knight) comes The Bride!, a bold, iconoclastic take on one of the world's most compelling stories.

Starring Academy Award nominee Jessie Buckley (Men, Wicked Little Letters) and Academy Award winner Christian Bale (The Dark Knight TrilogyThor: Love and Thunder), the first trailer and posters have been released today, finally pulling back the curtain on Bale's take on Frankenstein.

In the movie, a lonely Frankenstein (Bale) travels to 1930s Chicago to ask groundbreaking scientist Dr Euphronious (Annette Bening) to create a companion for him. The two revive a murdered young woman, and The Bride (Buckley) is born. What ensues is beyond what either of them imagined: Murder! Possession! A wild and radical cultural movement! And outlaw lovers in a wild and combustible romance!

The Bride! looks suitably weird and has a classic horror feel (albeit with a contemporary twist), so this should be well worth checking out when it opens in theaters next Spring. Buckley's take on the title character also looks every bit as compelling as what Bale is delivering in this preview.

The movie stars Buckley, Bale, Peter Sarsgaard, with Bening, Academy Award nominee Jake Gyllenhaal, and Oscar winner Penélope Cruz. Maggie Gyllenhaal directs from her own screenplay and produces alongside Oscar nominee Emma Tillinger Koskoff, Talia Kleinhendler and Osnat Handelsman Keren. The executive producers are Carla Raij, David Webb and Courtney Kivowitz.

Gyllenhaal is supported behind the camera by a team of award-winning film artisans, including director of photography Lawrence Sher, production designer Karen Murphy, editor Dylan Tichenor, music supervisor Randall Poster, composer Hildur Gudnadóttir and costume designer Sandy Powell.

Talking at CinemaCon earlier this year, Gyllenhaal said, "I was looking for something pop and big, and I wanted it to be radical at the same time. I didn’t quite know what I wanted it to be. This kind of ask that Frankenstein has, 'I’ll just take a bride'...and what happens when that Bride comes back is beyond his wildest imagination and doesn’t fit into the box he had for her."

"I think that all of us have a little aspect of something monstrous in us," the actor and filmmaker continued. "The monsters in our movie do monstrous things, but they’re also our heroes."

The Bride! arrives in theaters on March 6, 2026. Check out the trailer and posters below (via FearHQ.com).

Is there really a demand for more Frankenstein movies to justify 2 being developed?
NonPlayerC
NonPlayerC - 9/23/2025, 6:25 PM
@ComicPundit - just another series in the twin film Hollywood tradition. Pinocchio and Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio from a couple years ago, Armageddon and deep impact, jungle book and mogli, mission impossible and specter (different characters but the plot was almost exactly the same), Paul bart and observe and report, happy feet and surfs up, Edtv and the Truman show, antz and a bugs life..... the list goes on and on. oh and brace heart and rob roy was another big one. You do have a point, just googled how many Frankenstein movies there are and says over 400 lol

@NonPlayerC - Sixth Sense and Stir of Echoes (Echoes is far superior)
The Batman and ZSJL and the Flash .... with Titans having another Bruce Wayne in it

It’s from a female director and may likely be a feminist take on the property from the POV of The Bride so I’m assuming people on this site hate it…

Anyway , it seems kinda interesting imo so might check it out even if I’m not fully sold.

It’s certainly got a hell of a cast with Bale & Buckley leading it well it seems from the front and I do like the cinematography from what I’ve seen for the most part though I do worry a bit that it might try too hard at times to be different and/or edgy but we’ll see.

This looks like that it's getting the concept of Frankenstein's Monster wrong as he's meant to be this really simple character that just wants a friend and nothing more than that but it is hard to say if they're doing The Bride herself any justice due to the fact that she's not really featured much in media.

@lazlodaytona - Simple that's not who those characters are granted we don't know much about The Bride but what little we know about Frankensteins Monster is that he's a gentle soul and not whatever this film is making him out to be.

Damn why don’t they ever release these to coincide with Halloween and the spooky season when I’m pumped to see films like this! This looks bonkers, I love it! After Sinners, I’m digging the whole Frankenstein and The Bride as Bonnie and Clyde vibe. Looks like fun. Always in the mood for fresh takes on classic monsters!!!
