Jesse Eisenberg Hopes To Return As Lex Luthor; Says None Of His Scenes Were Cut From JUSTICE LEAGUE

In a new interview, Jesse Eisenberg shared a few details about his future as Lex Luthor and whether or not he'll reprise the role in Man of Steel 2. He also reveals how his Justice League cameo came to be.

Academy Award-nominated actor Jesse Eisenberg is currently at SXSW to promote the upcoming documentary, The World Before Your Feet, which follows a man named Matt Green as he spends six years walking on every street in New York City. Eisenberg serves a producer on the project - his first producer credit in his career.

While chatting with Variety about the documentary, Eisenberg was kind enough to spend a few moments chatting about his future as Superman's archnemesis Lex Luthor and based on his comments, it sounds like he knows as little as we do about if/when Luthor will show up again in the now-Snyderless DC Films universe. When asked if he was going to reprise the role in a future Superman film, presumably Man of Steel 2, Eisenberg replied, "I hope so. I mean, I have no idea is the truth. I love playing the character. Probably in terms of movie acting, it’s the most enjoyable character I’ve had the opportunity to play. So I would love to do it again. But I don’t know what their slate is. If you have any pull, please use it."

Now, while, the perpetually in-development Man of Steel sequel is probably the most logical place for him to turn up again, another potential option could be the Suicide Squad sequel, which is expected to roll cameras later this year. Lex does need to continue building his Injustice League (if the studio decides to continue with that storyline), which currently only consists of Deathstroke (Joe Manganiello), so it would make some narrative sense for him to make another cameo in that film to recruit some of worst heroes ever.

Eisenberg also shared an interesting tidbit about Justice League, explaining that he never had a major role to play in the film and that he was always meant to only appear in that brief post-credits scene. "No. I was in it after the credits." When further pressed about the rampant online speculation about cut scenes and whatnot, Eisenberg revealed that none of his scenes were cut and that, surprisingly, a little bit was actually added. "No, no. Actually, on the contrary, they added some stuff.

We should note that it is a little unclear whether he's talking about the film as a whole, which did undergo extensive reshoots and famously added quite a bit, or whether he's just talking about his cameo, which was reportedly filmed during the initial principal photography with Zack Snyder, who was relieved of his post in early 2017. It's also uncertain whether or not he's actually seen the film since he was a no-show at the worldwide premiere in November and is on the record admitting that he never watches his own movies.

Fueled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman’s selfless act, Bruce Wayne enlists the help of his newfound ally, Diana Prince, to face an even greater enemy. Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to find and recruit a team of metahumans to stand against this newly awakened threat. But despite the formation of this unprecedented league of heroes—Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and The Flash—it may already be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions.
