MCU Rumor Roundup: Plans For The YOUNG AVENGERS, Future MCU Directors Revealed, Captain Marvel Plans

The end of the Multiverse Saga is in sight, with Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars set to cap off what's been a period for the MCU full of highs and lows.

Looking to the future, we have plenty to look forward to, including an X-Men reboot and a reset for the MCU that's expected to give this franchise a fresh coat of paint. If a report from The Cosmic Circus is to be believed, Marvel Studios already knows which filmmakers it wants to tell some of those stories.

With Destin Daniel Cretton, Ryan Coogler, and Jake Schreier reportedly "locked in" for post-Avengers: Secret Wars movies, Joachim Rønning (TRON: Ares), Fede Álvarez (Alien: Romulus), and Gareth Edwards (Jurassic World Rebirth) are all said to be on Kevin Feige's radar.

The site's Alex Perez has also revealed that he expects Captain Marvel to have a major role in the next Avengers movies, with the Young Avengers/Champions also set to be a big part of those.

"The Young Avengers project is very much a thing," the scooper claims. "I don’t know if it’s the one that will be airing in 2027. But that they’ll link up, they will."

Ms. Marvel and Hawkeye are described as "co-leaders" of the team, and the report points out that "Kate Bishop is going to be one of the main heavy hitters of the next saga as a leader of the Young Avengers." Cassie Lang, meanwhile, will be the "third" person that Kamala Khan and Kate recruit.

The Hollywood Reporter, meanwhile, has shared a big update on Avengers: Doomsday. "On the other side of the pond, Avengers: Doomsday wrapped principal photography in the U.K. today," the trade confirms. "But true to the Marvel Method, Kevin Feige and the Russos Bros. will be tinkering as they prepare for a healthy dose of additional photography down the road."

Reshoots were to be expected, especially as they'll almost certainly include actors who weren't available during principal photography.

Marvel Studios has done a great job of keeping Avengers: Doomsday under wraps, with not a single cast member shown in set photos (a stark contrast to when Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame were shooting). Rumours have been plentiful, but in terms of leaks, a first look at Doctor Doom has been the biggest

Avengers: Doomsday stars Chris Hemsworth, Anthony Mackie, Winston Duke, Tom Hiddleston, Sebastian Stan, Letitia Wright, Paul Rudd, and Robert Downey Jr. Wyatt Russell, Simu Liu, Tenoch Huerta Mejia, Florence Pugh, Danny Ramirez, David Harbour, Hannah John-Kamen, and Lewis Pullman all make their Avengers franchise debuts in the movie.

The Fantastic Four: First Steps leads Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, and Joseph Quinn join them, as do X-Men franchise stars Kelsey Grammer, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Alan Cumming, Rebecca Romijn, James Marsden, and Deadpool & Wolverine star Channing Tatum.

Avengers: Doomsday is set to be released on December 18, 2026, with Avengers: Secret Wars scheduled to arrive on December 17, 2027.

@OrgasmicPotatoe - If Marvel goes this route and doubled down on MSheU then it’s going to be the final nail in the MCU. As much as I hope they don’t go this way, I almost want to watch Disney collapse and replay all their excuses and fan blaming

@Bucky74 - Yeah, i'm also on the fence. I've loved superhero movies since I was a kid, so i don't want to them to go away, I want them to succeed, thrive and flourish, but at the same time, if they double- and triple-down on their bullshit agenda which they KNOW is bullshit, I can't really feel sorry for them when they become the dumpster fire most of them are nowadays. They've made their bed, they can now lay in it. All I can do is warm my bones by the flames, and boy am I cold !

Sometimes I wonder how different things might have been if Disney never bought MS in '09 and they'd just kept on going the way they were.

@OrgasmicPotatoe - Agreed, my friend. It started with that cringe forced scene from endgame. We were all like “Huh?”

You don’t market Barbie fit boys, and you don’t add those elements to a boys franchise and expect your audience to go along. Marvel was killing it up until Endgame and their most successful films after were the ones with the least “agenda pushing” nonsense. That’s not a coincidence

@Bucky74 - Yep, and two of those three big post-Endgame successes (NWH, GOTG3, D&W) were majorly hyped around other studio's successful versions of these characters, not Marvel's. D&W wouldn't exist without the prior two Fox movies, and NWH's hype was all around the returns of Maguire, Molina, Dafoe and Garfield. I'm not forgetting all the shit these studios have flung at us over the decades either. But it's mind boggling how, in 2014, Sony had to have a Spidey summit to figure out what to do with the character after shitting the bed with it like they did. Their best option was to beg Marvel Studios to do it right for them. And they did !

But all those years later, and the biggest selling point of the last Spidey film was that it would feature the Spideys from those failed versions. MCU saved Sony back then, and now MCU had to use Sony to have a success.

Apparently, they are now looking for MORE boys-oriented IPs, after they butchered Marvel and Star Wars. Let the circus roll !

Is this a method ? ..It sounds just like Bad organization AND waste of Time a resources ...i Cant imaginé Nolan or Reeves wasting so much Time instead on focusing in making a good movie

Still moving ahead with sidelining established, popular male characters for their female girl boss replacements.

I'm sure this will course correct all the money Marvel and Disney keep losing.

@MrDandy - Which is likely why they are merging it with and calling them The Champions (as in the 2016 the Ms. Marvel/Miles Morales led comics team) rather than Young Avengers according to rumors.

Fede Álvarez has been on Feige’s radar since atleast Doctor Strange so that’s not surprising but Joachim Rønning is…

I have heard good things about his last film “The Young Woman and the Sea” aswell as some of his other work (he also recently got another directorial gig which hopefully means that Ares has been getting good buzz).

Anyway , looking forward to seeing Kate & Kamala together again because Iman and Hailee already have good chemistry imo as we saw in the end of The Marvels…

Also they will definitely be The Champions then Young Avengers!!.

I can totally get behind superheroes and all their magical powers. But still the idea of a guy and a young girl with no powers that just shoots really well with a bow and arrow really perplexes me. They’d be dead in moments in any of these fights.

@TheShellyMan - Marvel only knows how to double down on failure while lying and saying they are going to return to form. It’s MSheU agenda projects with a few characters they know you want to see to try and get your money, then box office failure, then blame fans, they say they will change before doing it again. Rinse and repeat.

If you like most of their slop good for you. DP and Wolverine was super fun. Spider-Man NWH was great, New Thunderbolts was good not great, and Fantastic Four was much better than I expected. The rat was almost entirely garbage

@TheShellyMan - I mean some of the 2016 onward Champions and 2005 onward Young Avengers members have a fan base but likely not enough in most cases for solo stories so as much reason to go with this for younger comic fans cos need to make stuff for younger audiences too not just old farts like us :D.

Nothing wrong with trying to sell old character to younger audiences too obviously but we don't like it when they turn a 60's character into a TOO kid friendly series or film :D

Always fair if it isn't for you or even the majority but ample would have said the same for the GotG (original or modern team) and look how well Miles Morales animated movie have been who would be in line to join The Champions if given an MCU intro along with the likes of Nova (Sam), A Hulk (Cho), Silk and a version of X23.

I mean us old farts are still getting plenty of characters from the 60's through 80's, I don't see a problem with them also adapting some from the 90's onwards cos the Winter Soldier worked out fine when that version didn't realy exist until about 20yrs ago same as the GotG team version we had with MCU films.

Ultimately us old farts are finaly getting new MCU F4 and Xmen, nothing wrong with a series packed with newer characters alongside that IF it is good and who knows, we may embrace it like we did with a similarly newer team like Starlords :D

@OrgasmicPotatoe - Agreed, but they’ve hired so many activists it may be too late. They run the company now and their number 1 goal is not to entertain and make a quality film. It’s to find ways of adding DEI elements without the film bombing. I really do hope they course correct because I also grew up reading these comics and want to see my favorite characters soar.

What’s funny is that before the films, they tested all of this in the comics and they all failed miserable and led to major losses. But rather than realizing say “Female Thor” isn’t working, they doubled down and pushed that into their films and were surprised when audiences hated the change
