Earlier reports on Friday suggested that Warner Bros.' Godzilla was going to earn $98 to maybe even $100 million at the U.S. box office, which would easily made it 2014's biggest opener.

But when the dust settled Monday for the actual box office numbers, Godzilla earned $93.1 million, a massive haul considering initial estimates a month ago were projected at $75 - $80 million.

That still leaves Captain America: The Winter Soldier at $95.0 as 2014's biggest opener thus far.

Now all Cap has to do is watch out for Fox's X-Men Days of Future Past opening this Memorial Day weekend.
