Following the epic mid-season finale, the Doctor gets in the holiday spirit in the all-new Christmas special written by lead writer and executive producer Steven Moffat (Sherlock).

Accompanied by his newest companion, played by Jenna-Louise Coleman, the Doctor’s latest adventure through space and time sees him once again crossing paths with the homo-reptilian Silurian Madame Vastra (Neve McIntosh) and her cohort Jenny (Catrin Stewart).

The special airs on Christmas day as 8pm.

I never saw the appeal myself. I thought the Eccleston ones were ok, but it was always a kid's show by and large...and don't get me wrong, I watch lots of kid's shows! But this just seemed very low-grade stuff.

@ATastyBurger: I'm pretty sure that Olivia and Matt's conversation about the new character not being the same as Oswin, was pretty deliberate sarcasm on their part. As aurorsand said, we've had other companions play parts before, but they were much smaller roles. With Freema Agyeman it was explained away, and with Karen Gillan the character's face was barely seen and covered with make up anyway. Oswin was very central to the episode she was in I doubt they'd just ignore that...

@Rormachine: I used to be the same, but once I got into Tennant's later episodes it got really good. There is still some silly parts which remind you that this is very much a family show, but there's also a lot of pathos in some episodes, particularly the last few specials of Tennant's run.

Doctor who has remained consistently good....daft at times, silly, of course but always good....and it isn't a children show, it's a family show, there's pretty dark stuff in there, it's not all running around and joking, it's pretty serious at times.

Clara will be the same person as Oswin in Asylum of the Daleks.

.......they made a very big deal about keeping Coleman a secret for the episode and in the episode they made a very big deal about her. It's a plot point.

That being said........Coleman really won me over with that red dress.

Also as a kids show I would never have thought that. American kid shows I think like Space Cases. But this show is a family show. It does it well enough to be applicable for all ages. This deals with themes of genocide and racism. That is not a kids show. It's exactly like Star Trek.

Trust in the Beeb. Who has never been consistent. Matt is a much better actor than credited, and the production values build and build. Cannot wait.

Anyone who can say that Doctor Who has gone downhill since Matt Smith became the Doctor clearly isn't watching the same show as everyoneelse.

Matt Smith is great as The Doctor. The 11th Doctor is one of my favorites. While the 10th Doctor is overrated and yes, I admit he's the best but one of the best Doctors out there. It's just that I watched my very first Doctor episode when Matt Smith became the Doctor and I really like that episode, The Eleventh Hour. How can you deny fish sticks and custard?

@Soforizo Agree about Matt Smith my only complient with him is when he does "Matt Smith-ism" like he always tends to say things like "Boee dibble do dum" and "Wibley wobbley, time-y why-my, gibbley gobbley, etx" I do like hsi doctor thoguth and Tennant, eklesston wil always be my doctors, also Paul mcGann I tihnk Baker is overated,. I like the fourth doctor but i think it all comes down to opinion.

@thenerdicon it IS a family show, and if you don;t think tis dark check out the tenth doctor stories The Family of Blood Two parter. I am liking Clara so far :)

'OH YES!'

Probably explain that she is an ancestor of the character she played in the first episode...hence the physical resemblance...

Some kind of temporal genetic realignment thingy wingy...

Cannot wait for this!!!

There is a huge debate between Who fans about who ran the show better, RTD or Moffat. I won't insight that argument here.
Personally, I liked RTD and Tennant. I really like Matt Smith as the Doctor but I feel like the show has gone down hill in the last two seasons. There has been some stories that are top notch but I'd like to go back to that more Sci-fi feel and get away from the fantasy stuff.
Dr. Who has always been family friendly but I feel like it has a kid's show vibe to it more so now than it did in the past.
Something about the over production going on bothers me the most. The over the top background music in the kills me!
