It's A Merry Christmas For The Wall-Crawler As SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME Passes $1 Billion Worldwide!

We certainly hope you're all enjoying the holidays, but the folks at Sony Pictures are probably happier than everyone right now after Spider-Man: No Way Home swings past the $1 billion mark worldwide...

Spider-Man: No Way Home started rolling out in theaters on December 15, and the Sony Pictures/Marvel Studios movie has now hit the $1 billion mark at the worldwide box office! We're waiting on specific numbers (reporting is a little behind due to Christmas), but as of yesterday, the threequel had earned $406 million domestic and $922 million globally. With an estimated $90 million - $95 million from North America alone today, Christmas is going to be kind to Spidey.

The Jon Watts-helmed threequel became the highest-grossing movie of 2021 earlier this week, beating the likes of F9: The Fast Saga and No Time to Die. What makes this $1 billion haul most impressive, however, is that Spider-Man: No Way Home hasn't been released in China (49 movies have earned more than $1 billion globally, but this is only one of five to do so without the Middle Kingdom). The fact that it's performing like a movie released prior to the pandemic is also staggering.

The response from fans and critics alike has been overwhelmingly positive, so it's really no wonder it's exceeded expectations and already started generating Oscar buzz. Given its box office achievements and audiences embracing it as a joyous piece of filmmaking celebrating twenty years of the wall-crawler's big screen adventures definitely makes it a worthy contender.

"Spider-Man: No Way Home is the greatest Marvel movie ever made. Period," we said in our review of the movie. "As epic as it is emotional, this is not only a perfect blockbuster, but Spider-Man’s wildest, funniest, and most awe-inspiring adventure yet. It's a Marvel masterpiece."

It should be be very interesting seeing where things go from here, though it does feel like the sky could be the limit for Spider-Man: No Way Home ($2 billion might be a tough task without China, but $1.5 billion is looking likely). We'll obviously keep you updated over the days and weeks to come.
