Paul Giamatti Dishes On THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2

Mostly discusses what we already know, Paul Giamatti distinguishes his role as Rhino from the comics' iteration and says he's "thrilled" to play the Russian mobster in The Amazing Spider-Man 2! Check it out!

Academy Award-nominated actor Paul Giamatti spoke with the Toronto Sun recently about his role in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 as Aleksei Sytsevich aka the Rhino, who Giamatti says is "One of several bad guys in the movie." He continued, "In the comic books of old, he had this suit on that made him look like a rhinoceros, and it made him super strong," says the actor, laughing a little in disbelief at what he describes. If there was a bank vault he would just run right through it. Butt through it with his head. And he was not very smart." As several set photos have indicated, Rhino has been modernized for the Marc Webb-directed 2014 sequel.

"And I have a particular kind of suit, but I don't think I'm supposed to talk about it," Paul Giamatti says. "He's a Russian mobster. Russians are always good villains. I have an ability to just destroy things. My accent is pretty hammy. I loved doing it. it seemed to me like an opportunity to be as over-the-top hammy as possible. It was really fun." What do you think?

In “The Amazing Spider-Man™ 2,” for Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield), life is busy – between taking out the bad guys as Spider-Man and spending time with the person he loves, Gwen (Emma Stone), high school graduation can’t come quickly enough. Peter hasn’t forgotten about the promise he made to Gwen’s father to protect her by staying away – but that’s a promise he just can’t keep. Things will change for Peter when a new villain, Electro (Jamie Foxx), emerges, an old friend, Harry Osborn (Dane DeHaan), returns, and Peter uncovers new clues about his past. The film is directed by Marc Webb from a screenplay by Alex Kurtzman & Roberto Orci & Jeff Pinkner, with a previous draft by James Vanderbilt, and based on the Marvel Comic Book by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko. Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach are the producers. The sequel is set for release in 3D on May 2, 2014.

My two main gripe with this movie is that Paul is in this...as the Rhino. What a waste of a good actor on a character like Rhino.

And secondly, Electros motivation. From the sounds of it so far, the only reason he wants to destroy the city and kill Spider-man is because people ignored him. Talk about blowing things out of proportion. I get that it must suck, but killing a shit ton of people for the [frick] of it, doesn't make a very interesting villain.

If they reboot the reboot
I would have Spidey fight the kingpin and the mob I could have Silvermane in it and the shocker and do the tablet of time story it be badass. It can be done like the dark knight but with spider-man.

@ForeverPowerful- Now that you mention it, Electro's motivation sounds pretty lame. He's evil because nobody understands him and his feelings are hurt. There could be more seeing as how alot of the film is still under wraps, but from what we've heard about Electro, he sounds like a whiny villain, which isn't a good thing.

Also, there is no reason the Rhino can't look like the Rhino from the comics. The main character has all the abilities of a spider and fought a giant reptile in the previous film. The audience has already suspended disbelief. They tried to make the Lizard look more grounded and look how that turned out.

Comedic Mandarin sucked in Iron Man 3.
Comedic Two-Face, Mr. Freeze, Poison Ivy, Penguin, Spacey's Lex Luthor, all sucked in their various WB shit films.
Mother F**ker in Kick-Ass 2 sucked!
Comedic Villains are Bastard Villains not even aware they are evil or aware of just what they are.

They are adumbrations. Oxymorons. And unless the film is an a comedy, comedic villains absolutely have no place in a film.

Amazing Spider-Man 2 has 2 comedy relief badguys coming our way.

Never thought I'd be defending this movie, but why are you guys PROTESTING? It's not like your hours got cut, or the store ran out of your favorite brand, or there's no vacancy at a good hotel you wanted to stay in.

Giamatti just said he had fun hamming it up.
You know who used to ham it up like it was nobody's business?

God I miss that man...

Why are we tripping on rhino like he's the main villain? I think He'll do good. I'm definitely hyped for it. I agree that electro's origin isn't the best, it just seems like he can have a change of heart and I don't like that. But hey, what do I know?

Spider Man comics sucked. The TV show sucked in the 70s. All the movies have sucked...so I really have my hopes up for this one. Yeah..ok. Have fun with the Xth installment of slender, teen boy in tights shooting his sticky stuff all over the place.

Haters should quit caring so much about the sequel. The rest of us are still just excited to see so much Marvel come to fruition in cinema.

"it seemed to me like an opportunity to be as over-the-top hammy as possible." Really? Because that's exactly the kind of shit that DOESN'T work in CBM's anymore. Notice Green Lantern sucked? Justin Hammer in IM2 [frick]ed up the whole movie. Way to go Webb & Giamatti. Great job not taking your profession seriously. [frick] you.
