COMICS: THOR Artist Russell Dauterman Reveals "Unworthy Thor" And "Female Thor" Artwork

Russell Dauterman is the artist who will join writer Jason Aaron on the controversial new series which features a woman wiedling Mjolnir and taking the "Thor" moniker. Well, he has now released some character sketches showing off both her and the former God of Thunder...

The amazing Esad Ribic (Thor: God of Thunder) designed the new costumes for "Unworthy Thor" and the woman who will soon be wielding Mjolnir in his absence, but THOR's Russell Dauterman obviously wanted to get his take on them straightened out before joining the "Avengers NOW!" series as its regular artist. He posted the following character sketches on Tumblr recently, showing off his take on them both. The announcement of this new series was met with a great deal of scepticism and controversy, but it sure is going to look good regardless! What do you guys think?

They cancelled Hawkeye for this?

@TheDudeRusty

No, Fraction is ending Hawkeye on his own terms. Where did you even hear such a thing from?

The idea of naming her Thor is awful. The idea of having a woman wield Mjolnir I am fine with, but it's like saying the new Captain America, Sam Wilson, should take on Steve Roger's name, even though he isn't Steve Rogers.

I had just gone back to Thor. Now I will be dropping the title. Nice artwork (ill proportions aside)but a rabbit hole I'm not willing to follow them down.

What I'm surprised about is why are you guys bitching about comics using gimmicks to sell shit? Comics constantly used gimmicks to sell in the past with covers saying shit like "WILL ROBIN DIE?!" decades before Jason Todd finally bit the dust.

Why are you acting like this is suddenly a new thing in this industry?

Thor is one of the few Superheroes that is known by his given name, so I think that should be respected a little more because of that. Of course, it is just going to be a short thing and it will revert back, but that doesn't automatically mean it should get a free pass.

So...did Unworthy Thor lose an arm?

And I'm fine with the change, as long as the storyline doensn't blow...

And since this is a gimmick, what happens to the new gal when Unworthy Thor becomes Thot again? If she can use Mjolnir then she's a pretty special character. You can't really just make her disappear y'know?

Who, may I ask, did not see this coming after Dan Slott's Superior Spider-Man successful run? Wolverine dies, new Cap, new Thor, and Superior Iron Man. This will equal $$$$ plus a New Avengers Team. Other than a straight up boycott, they will sell.

If "Unworthy Thor" becomes its own title, that sounds like an interesting read.

I would read Unworthy Thor. Follow him through his adventures of unemployment...sounds sweet.

Desperation or just really good marketing and promotion? ;-)

Desperation. How many comic readers do you know who watch the View??

Anyone who doesn't like a female Thor is a sexist and a bigot. There is no logical reason that Thor can't be a woman. Anyone who does not share this opinion or attempts to rebut this is also a sexist and a bigot.

Just like anyone who doesn't like a Blacktain America is a racist and doesn't like Michael B. Jordan as Human Flamer is a racist.

It really makes no sense to call her Thor. Thor is the son of Odin. Not the daughter of Odin.

Then again with long blonde hair and small boobs, Thor could be considered female.

Looks stupid . Robot Arm Fail , No shirt why not have him running around in his underware lol . He should still have armor and weapons since he is well trained in the use of every weapon there is . Also he has a string to hold up his pants ? Where is his belt of strength ? that didn't just appear because of his hammer .

@lsc2222 since "God Butcher" story arc, Thor has been missing that arm in the future. Maybe now we'll find out how it happens.
