In 10 days, fans of superhero role-playing games won’t need to shell out $50 to $60 for DC Universe Online on PC or Playstation 3. Champions Online, a multi-player game that first came out in September 2009, will be free to play Jan. 25.
Game-maker Cryptic will no longer charge mandatory monthly subscriptions but will instead offering a tiered membership program with an online ship for extra costumes, character slots and extra missions. Gold memberships costing $15 a month, matching DC Universe Online’s standard fee, allows players to have access to all of the extras on a complimentary basis.
