BOX OFFICE: WRATH OF THE TITANS Opens To $1 Million From Midnight Showings

The fantasy epic, which stars Sam Worthington and Liam Neeson, has opened to a million dollars from midnight screenings. The film is expected to reach second place in the weekend box office, while The Hunger Games is expected to retain its first place from last week.

Deadline reports that Warner Bros.' Wrath Of The Titans, a sequel to 2010's Clash Of The Titans, has opened with $1 million from midnight screenings in 1,490 theaters. Predictions suggest that the movie will debut to $34M-$36M this weekend. Clash Of The Titans opened with $61 million two years ago, but Wrath is still expected to do well financially (despite reviews being mostly negative; the film is currently sitting at 22% on Rotten Tomatoes).

Meanwhile, Lionsgate's The Hunger Games, an adaptation of the successful Suzanne Collins novel, is expected to again be the #1 movie of the weekend. The film, which stars Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson, is set to pass $190 million in North America today after being in theaters for only a week. Wrath Of The Titans is expected to open in second place.

Also opening today is Relativity Media’s Snow White tale, Mirror Mirror, which stars Lily Collins and Julia Roberts. The movie should open to $22M-$25M this weekend. With the film's target audience being children 12 and under, as well as school being out next week, Mirror Mirror should do rather well this month.

What do you plan on seeing this weekend?

$1,000,000 is not that much for a blockbuster weekend.
That'll probably JUST about cover the production's bill for men's hairspray re: Sam's fro.

Is $1 million really any good for a midnight showing in this day in age?

@ 3D Great minds think a like. Except I am really digging the Hawkeye glasses for some reason. I guy at my job already pre ordered the 3D film cells, the Thor glasses, and he is wearing his Iron Man arc reactor shirt (that Lights up), and Iron Man hoodie, and his repulser blaster. May 4 cant come soon enough.

Also I doubt Hunger Games will repeat, it peaked already, everyone who wanted to see it already saw in the opening weekend...and with mix reviews from fans of the book to the casual fan, I doubt it will have a big second week.

It looks like a great way to kill an hour and a half. As far as story goes, it's not like I'm going to the theatre to watch some opus like Tropic Thunder.

Its going to be quite for the Hunger Games NOT to repeat. I read the book and loved the movie. People were actually clapping at the end of it (and not just because it finally ended)at the cinema at which I saw it. Word of mouth is actually quite good for this movie. Wrath will do okay, but 1 mill for a midnight showing is not that great.

If you make a movie worth $1million then it earns $1million in a midnight screening then you're pretty much set for life LOL.

Even if the second film was outstanding I wouldn't be interested in seeing it because the first film was utter shite!

No way am I gonna let Hollywood sucker me into a franchise with shite movies involved when it comes to buying Blu Rays. They'd better off going back and remake the first movie properly before even thinking about doing any more of this unnecessary sequel shite. And while Sam Worthless is in the lead, nothing good will ever come of this forced franchise!

Much rather go see John Carter again by a long shot!

I just got back from seeing Wrath, and FAtypeofguy totally hit the nail on the head with this one.

It's miles better from the first one, mainly because the first one was so awful. This movie isn't anything special by any means, but it's a completely serviceable popcorn/action movie.

The action and FX are good, and the plot isn't terrible. It's basically a video game plot. Bad guy is coming, hero has to go get mystical items to fight bad guy, fights bad guy. So nothing amazing, but there isn't any "WTF am I watching?" moments like in the first one. It's just simple and straightforward.
