Total Film has just revealed two new covers for its next issue (via ActioNewz.com) that put the spotlight on Christopher Nolan's Oppenheimer. These offer an exciting new look at Cillian Murphy as "the man who moved the Earth" in a movie that looks set to tell the story of J. Robert Oppenheimer, the father of the atomic bomb.

The phenomenal cast also includes Emily Blunt, Matt Damon, Robert Downey Jr., Florence Pugh, Rami Malek, Kenneth Branagh, Dane DeHaan, Dylan Arnold, David Krumholtz, Alden Eherenreich, and Matthew Modine.

Like Dunkirk, it's a historical retelling of a turning point in human history, but there's still the expected level of secrecy surrounding Nolan's next blockbuster. Based on the 2005 Pulitzer Prize-winning book American Prometheus: The Triumph and Tragedy of J. Robert Oppenheimer, this movie looks set to be another visual masterpiece from Nolan.

Even a preview like this is enough to set your pulse racing, and we can't help but believe the director has dreamed up another epic spectacle (from a filmmaking perspective, at least). After all, he always pushes the boundaries behind the camera, and while this is a very grounded story, it's one the first trailer suggested will be unlike anything we've seen from him before.

We now expect new details and stills to be revealed by the magazine in the coming days, and wouldn't be surprised if a trailer is right around the corner. Having that play in front of Avatar: The Way of Water on IMAX screens certainly wouldn't be the worst idea in the world, particularly as the 3D movie is expected to be a box office hit when it opens next weekend.

Oppenheimer arrives in theaters on July 21, 2023.

You can check out a closer look at both of these covers in the Tweet below.

@ShimmyShimmyYA - the bomb isn't just a bomb, but also a time travel device

@bkmeijer1 - Well… depending on the energy yield, it can be.

@ScaryTerry - don't think the bombs from the Manhattan Project had that much yield (relatively).

That said, I could see Nolan put a spin on the Manhattan Project itself.

@bkmeijer1 - I’m intrigued nonetheless

Why do people keep saying this will be an epic spectacle? Isn’t it a straight up drama?

@ThorArms - I’ve wondered that too. The budget is massive for it too.

Feels like this should be more intimate drama than spectacle. But we will see and Nolan gonna Nolan.
