UNCHARTED Star Antonio Banderas Hopes To See SPIDER-MAN Actor Tom Holland Take Over ZORRO Franchise

Could Tom Holland go from Spider-Man to Nathan Drake to Zorro? The actor's Uncharted co-star, Antonio Banderas, has said he'd like to pass the mantle of the swashbuckling hero to the Peter Parker actor.

Antonio Banderas has once again expressed interest in returning for a new Zorro movie. The actor first played the iconic masked vigilante in 1998's The Mask of Zorro alongside Anthony Hopkins, who played the original Zorro, Don Diego de la Vega, and Catherine Zeta-Jones.

He'd later return for a 2005 sequel, The Legend of Zorro, though it wasn't as critically or commercially successful as its predecessor and that's where the franchise ended.

Despite that, there are still a couple of small screen takes in the works unrelated to those movies. One is a Spanish-led effort set in 1830s Los Angeles starring Miguel Bernardeau, while Robert Rodriguez was said to be developing a female-led reimagining for The CW earlier this year (unfortunately, we don't anticipate that moving forward given recent changes to the network).

During a recent interview with ComicBook.com (via ActioNewz.com), Banderas weighed in on a potential follow-up.

"Yes, I would, I would consider that possibility, why not?" the Puss in Boots: The Last Wish star said. "If they called me to do ‘Zorro,’ I would do what Anthony Hopkins did for me, which is to pass the torch."

"I did ‘Uncharted’ with [Tom Holland], and he’s so energetic and fun," Banderas added. "He’s got this spark, too. Why not?"

That's a solid pick, though the likelihood of it happening is hard to say. Holland looks set to have a busy few years ahead of him, with rumours of a new Spider-Man trilogy swirling and Sony no doubt keen to produce an Uncharted sequel sooner rather than later.

Zorro would be a great role for any actor, though it's one that brings an awful lot of expectations with it. The concept is also something of a hard sell these days, especially in a world where superhero movies continue to rule theaters.

We'll see what happens, but be sure to let us know your thoughts in the comments.
