The Simpsons / Family Guy crossover episode, first announced last week, is expected to air as an hour-long special in 2014. Just following the announcement of the Simpsons / Futurama crossover episode, New details of the special episode were revealed at Comic Con 2013 by Rich Appel, currently a co-exec producer on Family Guy and formerly a producer on The Simpsons.

[The crossover is] gonna be the season premiere in a year, but it's a super-sized episode - it may be an hour episode," said Appel. "We were thrilled - [The Simpsons voice actors] Dan Castellaneta, Julie Kavner, Hank Azaria, Yeardley Smith, Nancy Cartwright... they all play their parts."
"As soon as Dan opened his mouth with his first Homer line, there was a wave of applause," Appel said of the first script read-through. "[And] there may or may not be a 5-minute Chicken fight between Peter and Homer!"

As mentioned earlier, The Simpsons will also crossover with another Matt Groening creation - animated sci-fi comedy Futurama - in an upcoming episode.

You don't know who I am? Well sit back because my story is a beautiful tale of power and integrity, a captivating experience and ingenious story.

When I was sent to prison for a crime I didn't commit, I signed up for the weapon X program where I got some acid stuff in my eye which caused me to go blind except for whenever I shout the word, "SHAZAM." I was part of Project: Rebirth and given an indestructible shield, however I had gotten bitten by a radioactive spider which caused my father Odin to banish me from my home, only for both my parents to get shot in an alley. And to top it all off, I was exposed to gamma radiation when my mother died and I was abducted from Earth by a strange blue-skinned alien, which gave me the ability to teleport, shapeshift, read minds, and squirt milk from my nose.

I find it funny that they are doing a crossover after the amount of insults and jokes between the two, guess money does talk after all

Futurama is the best out of Simpsons, Family Guy, Futurama, and Robot Chicken.

Simpsons are awesome... in the 90s. Family Guy always sucked though.

A show that used to be funny and a show that never was funny. What a great team-up.

Futurama is infinitely better than both Simpsons and Family Guy combined.

Yes and no... and I've just recently come to realize this after watching Simpsons after many years into adulthood. Simpsons actually has some really fantastic insights on family, friends and life, especially when one gains responsibilities such as becoming a parent. Overall, I prefer Futurama by a long shot, but like American Dad reigning over Family Guy, Simpsons has a much better cohesive narrative and moral system which leads to a really thought-provoking storytelling experience IMO [not trying to discount the vast concepts in Futurama, just a very different appreciation].
