Mark Ruffalo has told Australia’s Sunday Herald-Sun that if he had been offered the role of Bruce Banner/The Hulk a few years ago, he more than likely would have turned the offer down. Thankfully, he's changed his mind since then:

"I probably wouldn't have done this movie in the past. But because of what Robert Downey Jr had done and where that genre has gone since then, I did it."

The actor went on to say that he he's a little nervous about the prospect of working in green screen and special effects heavy situations, but he's also excited about the oppurtunites it presents. One thing he was quick to point out though is that he hasnt taken the job just for money:

"I have never really been one to go for the cash. If my dad knew how much money I had turned in my lifetime he would kick me in the ass"

Ruffalo finished by saying that when he tested for The Avengers it felt like, "going for more than a job"

The Avengers will assemble in cinemas on May 4th, 2012.
