Joaquin Phoenix's JOKER Look May Have Been Lifted From Unused THE DARK KNIGHT Concept Art
Joaquin Phoenix's Clown Prince of Crime looks quite a bit different to what pretty much everyone imagined it would in Joker and now concept art from The Dark Knight may reveal where the idea originated...
The Dark Knight completely reinvented The Joker's appearance and, since then, the comic books have also played around with how the Clown Prince of Crime looks. Todd Phillips' Joker may have avoided the same level of backlash that Suicide Squad received for covering the villain in tattoos but many fans were still disappointed by such a different take on Batman's greatest foe.
While Joaquin Phoenix's take on The Joker is quite clearly inspired by the Batman TV series from the 1960s, one eagle-eyed fan has pointed out that it appears as if those working on this standalone origin story may have used concept art from The Dark Knight to create the villain's look here.
Bear in mind that The Dark Knight put The Joker in a mask which was inspired by the TV show for that incredible opening sequence featuring a bank robbery but this clearly isn't a mask and looks like it was just one of many looks Christopher Nolan's team may have considered for the character. Either way, the similarities are obvious and it's hard not wonder if it had any influence!
