THE BATMAN: New Details Revealed About The Age And Type Of Caped Crusader Matt Reeves Is Looking For

Armie Hammer won't play Batman, but a new report from a reliable source has shed some light on the age range Matt Reeves is considering for his Dark Knight as well as the type of Bruce Wayne's we'll see...

Earlier this week, reports started swirling that Armie Hammer was in final talks to play the DC Extended Universe's new Caped Crusader in The Batman. Within a matter of hours, the trades confirmed that that was false and now The Hollywood Reporter has shed a little more light on the filmmaker's plans for the iconic superhero.

While Hammer is 32, Reeves is reportedly looking to cast an actor in his late 20s as Bruce Wayne. 

It's said that this new version of Batman "won't be a straight-up rookie, a la the Caped Crusader in Frank Miller's Batman Year One, but he won't be the expert, undefeatable crimefighter of a Batman at his peak." That's not really something we've seen explored in a movie before now, and Reeves has previously been quoted as saying that he intends to focus more on the character's detective roots, too.

With any luck, casting news is coming soon but the trade notes that neither Warner Bros. nor Reeves has actually met with anyone at this stage so it could be a while yet. 

You have to believe that a shortlist exists, though, and it will be interesting to find out whether Reeves goes for a big star or someone who could be classed as an unknown. We'll be sure to keep you guys updated with more as we have it.

I'm getting the feeling that this particular Batman casting is going to be the most divisive one yet.

Not a lot of young actors in their 20s who have a globally positive following. There's going to be a lot of doubt.

Sounds good, with a 20 something, no matter who they get, its going to get a mixed reaction from people. Hopefully whoever they choose can prove everyone wrong

@L0RDbuckethead - They want an actor in their late 20's .. yet only 3 people from this list are in their 20's .. and VERY late 20's at that

Jack O’Connell: August 1, 1990 (age 28 years)
Kit Harrington: December 26, 1986 (age 32 years)
Nicholas Hoult: December 7, 1989 (age 29 years)
Aaron Taylor-Johnson: June 13, 1990 (age 28 years)
Richard Madden: June 18, 1986 (age 32 years)
Robert Pattinson: May 13, 1986 (age 32 years)
Armie Hammer: August 28, 1986 (age 32 years)

So if they want the actual 'actor' to be in the their late 20's .. you'd have to assume that the majority, if not this entire list .. is very inaccurate

Everyone on this list will be at LEAST 30 when The Batman comes out

@Kevwebsz - absolutely. There are just so many great Batman stories out there, they should really utilise the source material.

Me personally, I'd like a young Scott Snyder style Batman. Not exactly Zero Year, but something along the lines of a slightly younger Court of Owls/Death of the Family Batman.

@Kevwebsz - Well they are already going in their own direction, instead of just doing what the MCU does. They said they are focusing on individual stories, instead of always building up to something. Plus we are getting good variety in their films.

@Jeight8 - Batman Begins was an origin story. I think they’re more redffering to an “early years” type of Batman, like a couple of years into his tenure. Then again, that’s what The Dark Knight is.

I’ve always wanted to see more of Batman being a detective on the big screen. He’s not called “The Dark Knight Detective” or “The World’s Greatest Detective” for no reason.
