Matt Reeves and Mattson Tomlin's script for The Batman Part II is finally done, and the long-awaited sequel is now gearing up to begin shooting next April. It's been a long time coming, and fans are understandably eager for news.

Beyond the return of key cast members Robert Pattinson, Andy Serkis, Jeffrey Wright, and Colin Farrell, little to nothing is known about what's in store for us in The Batman sequel. However, it seems updates are imminent based on a "Batman Day" post from Reeves.

Sharing a familiar snippet of the Dark Knight's theme from the first movie, Reeves wrote, "I feel so honored to be preparing to shoot the Next Chapter of our story. This character means so much to me. What a privilege. Can’t wait to share lots of exciting things about the movie with you all in the weeks and months to come… 🦇 Happy #BatmanDay ! #TheBatmanEpicCrimeSaga"

We'd imagine the filmmaker is referring to an influx of casting news. However, we're hoping that Reeves might also choose to officially announce which villain he's plucked from the comics to pit against the World's Greatest Detective.

The writer and director recently said he's set out to "[push] even further into the character of Bruce Wayne" with The Batman Part II, and added, "Picking the right villain that digs into what that does and goes into his past and his life, that was what drove that discussion. We're super excited about it, and I will say, it's never really been done in a movie before."

Hush, Hugo Strange, and The Court of Owls rank among the most popular suggestions from fans, and it's not outside the realm of possibility that we'll see more of The Joker and The Riddler after their chance Arkham meeting in The Batman

One thing we do know about The Batman Part II is that it won't be set in DC Studios' DCU. "I mean, it's a DC, so, like, it's Elseworld, but it is DC, so it's theirs as well," Reeves recently said of working with James Gunn and Peter Safran. "What the future brings and what I am doing will become clear when it comes."

The Batman Part II is set to be released in theaters on October 1, 2027. Are you excited for the next instalment of "The Batman Epic Crime Saga"?

Pitting these two universes against each other is almost as good an idea as US, UK and EU joining Ukraine in the fight against Russia, China and North Korea.
This is the metaphorical future of DC Studios:

Hopefully he actually has a take on the character and material this time instead of rehashing better, shorter films like the last one.

@IronSpider101 - He had a take on the character last time. Alfred's not his real father, but Nirvana is real music and he wishes he was never born. That's a take.

Should hold back with his promises, until the Warner buy situation is cleared.

@jasonvoorhees - That could take a long time to actually happen, maybe even a year from now; the movie will have been done filming by then.

@TheJok3r - Filming will be begin late april 2026.

@jasonvoorhees - I know; it'll likely go from April up to July or the end of August. If the Disney-Fox situation is anything to go by, this movie could be well into post-production by the time a deal is actually closed. I'm willing to bet we'll have a poster and maybe even a teaser trailer before this a deal is reached to buy WB.

My guess is they'll announce casting for Harvey Dent, since the Riddler took out Gil Colson in the first film. We'll get maybe casting news of one villain, and returning characters, but the main villain (court of owls) will stay underwraps.

While I am happy that Matt Reeves is moving forward with his Epic Crime saga, nothing he does will ever reach the GOAT...

...but Penguin came pretty close!

@Forthas - I agree in principle, buuuuut….. I’m not gonna say it’s impossible to top that trilogy.

All he needs is a banger to outdo TDK (a mountainous order), and beating TDKR isn’t that tough. I liked Nolan’s finale, but it wasn’t very satisfying.

@Forthas - I think it's still early to say for sure, as the potential is definitely there. I think one thing Reeves' universe has over Nolan's is the shows, as those allow him the opportunity to expand his story in a way Nolan couldn't. There's also the fact that Nolan had to start from scratch and had nowhere to look for inspiration. Reeves on the other hand has Nolan's trilogy to look at in order to do and improve what worked for it and avoid what didn't.

@Forthas -

Very true. The Dark Knight is still the best CBM ever made. Infinity War came close. Winter Soldier did too.

But TDK RULES!

@JustAWaffle - Well nothing is impossible, but so far 1/3rd of his supposedly planned trilogy is inferior to ALL of the films Nolan made inn my opinion. I have a VERY hard time seeing anything outdo the Dark Knight but of course it is not beyond the realm of possibility.

I fail to understand the hate that Dark Knight Rises gets or in this case the downgraded praise. It is like Man of Steel, whenever I ask people what there criticisms of the film are, I get either comments that are easily debunked or opinions that are highly generic and subjective....but sure!

@TheJok3r - Your comment about the shows is great point and I will concede that the villains introduced in the Batman Crime Saga are on par with Nolan's with the exception of Reeves Joker. I think in the case of the Penguin it is in part he had the TV series to really flesh out his character.

@Forthas - I just watched TDKR a few weeks ago, and while I said I liked it, I do think the acting was worse. The mystique of the league of shadows was weak. Bane had some awesome moments, but it just felt too naturalized. There was no explanation for the mask besides him getting his butt kicked in the pit. Talia (forgot the actress’ name) felt like she was playing in a campier film throughout. Robin was shoehorned in, and didnt satisfy. Bale’s Batman voice was a lot weirder in this one than the others. And, at no fault of anyone involved in the film, Ledger’s absence was sorely felt at times.

All in all I still liked it, and I’m happy with the trilogy as a whole, but the finale was the weakest imo. That’s why I’d put The Batman on top of TDKR. But not Batman Begins or anything close to TDK.

@JustAWaffle - So even though in The Batman, he....

1) NEVER stops the Riddler who achieves EVERY SINGLE THING he planned except killing the mayor which was really thwarted by James Gordon.
2) There was no nuance difference between Batman and Bruce Wayne (they act the same)
3) The UNREALISTIC depiction of Batman being completely impervious to a bomb, slamming into a steel beam from a fall, and automatic gunfire which does not so much as move him backward
4) The fact that Catwoman was the one that got the incriminating information that led to the downfall of Falcone while Batman did virtually nothing to resolve that issue,
5) The completely unlikely back story that was alluded to that Batman was trained to do all of those thing by Alfred
6) and the film basically making the case that Batman was bad at being Batman since he himself stated that crime was rising since he started and he could not address every single one.

.... you liked that MORE than the Dark Knight Rises?

And I point these things out as a person that generally liked The Batman. But in my opinion it does not touch the Nolan films and like you did in your review, every single time I have this discussion with people they point to subjective arguments (like ”...I did not like the acting” or something about “pacing”) which is OK but I can only disagree. The points I make about The Batman are objectively true and problematic.

@Forthas - we really need a Robin in these movies to distance itself from being a Nolan rehash. Like a real boy wonder Robin
Forthas
Forthas - 9/21/2025, 5:21 PM
@JFerguson - I understand why they do not use Robin. The moral implications of Batman exposing a child to dangerous situations is something that might become a detriment to the popularity of Batman.

@Forthas - well that’s what’s we will be getting in brave and the bold

@Forthas - I’m not saying The Batman wasn’t without problems, but I give a lot more leeway, since it’s his first few years.

Though I can objectively point to members of the cast of TDKR giving a similar assessment of their own acting in that film (at least the one who played Talia).

I can look past the naturalizing of Bruce’s training by Alfred and most of those other things you noted, but I will probably be pretty disappointed if they don’t explore any of the fantastical elements of the rogues gallery. I think Reeves captured a better tone for Batman imo, but it’ll probably knee cap the whole thing if he tries to take the naturalistic route that Nolan put out, because that’s not going to be topped for a plethora of reasons…Nolan being the superior director for one.

I mean , it makes sense since don’t they start shooting like 6-7 months?.

If so then it’s about time they start assembling their crew & cast…

Hugo Strange for main villain played by Jared Harris!!.

More than 2 years to the next Batman movie.
I would have taken the writer/director role away from Reeves or at least secretly looked for replacements.

We had Tim Burton doing 2 great Batman movies.
We had Christopher Nolan doing one good, one great and one mediocre Batman movie.

We had Matt Reeves doing one mediocre Batman movie.
