THE DARK KNIGHT Makes The Top 10 In The Film Blogger's Alternative Poll

As a response to the Sight and Sound "best of all time" poll, HeyUguys have put together an alternative list based on feedback from the film blogging community. Read on for the top 10..

Once every decade, The British Film Institute's Sight and Sound magazine polls a selected panel of 846 distributors, critics, and academics to come up with their greatest film of all time. Orson Wells' Citizen Kane has come out on top for the last 50 years, but this time Alfred Hitchcock's Vertigo got the top spot. By way of a fun response to this list, HeyUguys decided to put together an alternative top 10. 120 contributors from various sites and blogs across the net have sent in their lists, and here are OUR 10 best of all time..

1) Jaws
2) Back to the Future
3) The Dark Knight
4) Blade Runner
5) 2001 A Space Odyssey
6) There Will Be Blood
7) Psycho
8) Citizen Kane
9) Pulp Fiction
10) The Thing

As you can see, Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight came third, which is pretty impressive. It's great to see sci-fi fare such as Blade Runner, The Thing and Back To The Future on there too. I'm delighted that 3 of the movies I selected as part of my own top 10 made the final list. You can see that list in full , as well as Josh's and the rest of the individual contributions by clicking the link below.

Tell me one line in any Bat-Nolan film that is as good as this, besides "Why so Serious?"

Besides, the way Freeman says this...

"Let me tell you something my friend. Hope is a dangerous thing. Hope can drive a man insane."- Red.

Cool. But I think Avengers is actually the best movie I've seen. Perfect cast, scenes, acting, story, characters, action.

But I love other movies too. :) Still need to see Back to the Future films. :\

Im sorry but shawshank, star wars, raiders of the lost ark, its a wonderful life, The shining, clockwork orange, Heat (which has a ton of of similarities to TDK), Alien, raging bull....these are a mere few i dont believe are on either list...might be wrong, and are more deserving then TDK, TheRe will be blood, hell even some are more deserving then some classics already up their.

no Schindler's List, no Goodfellas, Chariots of Fire, Shining, Saving Private Ryan, Platoon, Apocalypse Now, the good, the bad and the ugly etc?

Shawshank is a classic indeed, I'm sure it almost made the cut..it's on quite a few individual top 10s if you head over to the site to check em out. Wasn't on mine but it might be 11 or 12.

@TheGoddamnDeadpool

Shawshank is my favorite movie of all time. It is the very definition of a good movie.

One thing that bugs me, though, is (granted the movie is on the list) how today's generation disregards 2001: A Space Odyssey. Too many people say it's too boring, and makes no sense. I want to slap them silly and throw them through a meat grinder! It is a gold brick of cinema!

well, they can only put ten movies up there. I personally would put one of the Godfather movies up there, but that's just my list. Love all of those movies though, especially the Dark Knight.

TDK deserves the honor I wish some people would stop hating on it because they claim it was overrated but it was not overrated however but people have the right to their on opinion.

I believe if TDK would have only grosses maybe what Batman Begins (in which I luv Begins also) grossed many of U would not hate on it as much & furthermore some say the movie it just about The Joker but it also much about the whole cast Batman, Harvey Dent & all the characters. I mean The Joker is a scene stealer & he is written well in the movie & that is the way it should be, that is the purpose of him. Bruce Wayne is in his first full adventure established as The Batman.

I luv the Avengers too but I luved TDK more & both will be in my blu ray collection at the end year along with TDKR.

People chill they only movies & this is only some people's opinions which they have the right just as you do yours.

@SirWinsalot- I think Shawshank is on par with Godfather 1. Godfather is a touch better though.

No, some people think it's overrated because A LOT (and I mean A LOT) of people haven't shut up about it for the past 4 years. It's been compared to almost every movie that's been released since it was released, even when it doesn't make any sense. Hearing people constantly say "Oh, it's one of the greatest films of all time" and seemingly looking down upon any movie that seems to threaten anything that it's accomplished gets annoying, especially after, count em, FOUR years! Remember when the final HP outgrossed TDK? Jesus, people were sh*tting on it just because it outgrossed TDK. And it's not just on CBM. Oh no. It was on every movie forum site that exists. Believe me, it gets to you after a while.

Avengers didn't have much of a story, but it was still a great movie. I think there are other films out there though. i.e. Godfather, Goodfellas, First Blood, Casanova, and many more.
CrimsonArk
CrimsonArk - 8/7/2012, 6:49 AM
I can't believe The Thing made the top 10 over The Godfather.
I mean, if you're going with a horror/slasher movie that's NOT Psycho, why not choose Nightmare On Elm Street or Halloween instead?
TheDetectiveComicRises
TheDetectiveComicRises - 8/7/2012, 6:57 AM
@CrimsonArk that is why I said "some people" not all. I get your point but it the same vise versa when people hate on it. I mean this will go one forever but I mean some times certain people or movements come along people will always compare something to I mean look at basketball I think a player may always be compared to Michael Jordan. Certain things come along & revolutionize an industry like in football they day before my day it was Johnny Unitis & then I got to witness Joe Montana & in the past decade Peyton Manning to name a few & that is what The Dark Knight in the film industry especially for Comic Books but like I said agreed or disagreed everyone has their on opinion.

It's a good and fair list. My personal favorite isn't on the list (Ben-Hur? I'm not religious, but that galley scene was intense). But I liked all of those listed as well. TDK was a damn good movie.
