THE DARK KNIGHT RISES Already Dominating The International Box Office

The Dark Knight Rises has kicked off its international run by decimating the records held by The Dark Knight, while it's also thought that it will be announced later today that the threequel has taken Marvel's The Avengers' midnight showing record in North America.

Deadline reports that The Dark Knight Rises is "dominating everywhere" as it kicks off its international release. The film has already made an impressive $10.4 million from only 9 countries, putting it at 83% higher than the opening of The Dark Knight in 2008 in the exact same territories. Three of the key territories where it opened yesterday include Australia ($3.74 million; still a fair bit lower than Marvel's The Avengers which opened with $6.2 million), Korea ($2.7m) and Taiwan ($878,000). "This is particularly spectacular considering that today is not a holiday versus TDK’s holiday opening day," a studio exec told the site. Over the course of the weekend, the highly anticipated third instalment in Christopher Nolan's Batman trilogy will open in a total of only 17 international markets. Meanwhile, back in North America, a Warner Bros. exec apparently tells Nikki Finke that The Dark Knight Rises is expected to have no trouble beating the record $18.7 million made by The Avengers earlier this year at midnight screenings. Expect the full details on that here on CBM later today. The release of the film has been marred in tragedy after a mass shooting during a midnight screening in Denver. Details on that can be found HERE. Our thoughts and prayers go out to all those affected by these events.

Warner Bros. Pictures’ and Legendary Pictures’ "The Dark Knight Rises" is the epic conclusion to filmmaker Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy. The screenplay is written by Christopher Nolan and Jonathan Nolan, story by Christopher Nolan & David S. Goyer. The film is produced by Emma Thomas, Christopher Nolan and Charles Roven, who previously teamed on “Batman Begins” and the record-breaking blockbuster "The Dark Knight." The executive producers are Benjamin Melniker, Michael E. Uslan, Kevin De La Noy and Thomas Tull, with Jordan Goldberg serving as co-producer. The film is based upon characters appearing in comic books published by DC Comics. Batman was created by Bob Kane.

STARRING:

Awesome movie. Definitely the best film so far this year for me.

Only thing that kind of urked me was Bane's voice in some parts. The actual voice was good, just the audio level needed to be turned down in some parts. So many great scenes, and "oh heck freakin yes" moments.

9.5/10 for me

I loved this film this gets a 10/10 from me. Tom Hardy was f'ing awesome and Anne Hatheway was spectacular. This was Bales best performance as Batman up to this point by far. I have to admit I really teared up at the end of this movie.

Yeah Bane wasn't a midge. The film demands a second viewing, but it will be interesting to see how those who weren't in state of the art theaters understood Bane. I heard he was hard to understand if the particular theaters sound system wasn't up to snuff.

I saw the TDKR at IMAX yesterday as part of a special viewing of the Batman trilogy. The session started at 6am and finished at 3 PM so it is difficult for me to rate the film as I was really tired after sitting through 9hrs of Batman in an IMAX complex. My first impression is that it is highly conceptual movie, and intelligent on par with the Dark knight. In that it truly questions our notions of morality and justice within the context of current political climate and global economics. There is a lot you need to chew through, but the rewarded is an extremely well crafted and thought provoking movie. I loved it more than the Avengers, but I am a sucker for thought provoking movies and the TDKR does this in style. I cannot rate the movie as standalone without unduly discrediting one of them (they are all great in their own right). Therefore, I am compelled to rate the movies as a complete tale and on that basis the series works as one of the greatest trilogies I have ever seen. Beautifully executed, well told, excellent characters and supporting actors, and delivered in a style that doesn't lose the very essence of what Batman is and stands for.
