UPDATE: X-Men: The Actor Playing Charles Xavier In MCU Reboot Has Reportedly Leaked Ahead Of D23 Announcement

We're expecting at least some of the main cast of Marvel Studios' X-Men reboot to be announced at D23 later on, but it seems the actor playing Charles Xavier has been revealed a little early...

UPDATE: Daniel Richtman has shared a full breakdown of the D23 lineup, and he is confident that Christopher Abbott will be announced as the MCU's Professor X. He also believes that there will be two surprise cast members, one of whom will play Mr. Sinister (likely Adam Driver).

"Ginnifer Goodwin and Ke Huy Quan are the hosts of the event.

Kingdom Hearts collab with Coco Lilo & Stitch 2

X-Men reboot with Sadie Sink, Kit Connor, Chris Abbott, and two unnamed cast members, one of whom will play Mister Sinister (likely Adam Driver)

Original story follows.

Though nothing has been confirmed, several reliable sources are reporting that there will be some kind of X-Men-related announcement during D23 later today.

We have heard that the entire main cast has not been locked down, but a partial reveal is likely, and the name of one actor appears to have been disclosed a little early.

Apparently, we can expect Christopher Abbott to be announced as the Marvel Cinematic Universe's Charles Xavier.

Last week, a rumor circulated online that Marvel had already cast someone to play Professor X, and the actor had "previously appeared in a Marvel project." Abbott, 40,  played The Foreigner in Sony Pictures' Kraven the Hunter. His other credits include Wolfman, Poor Things, Bring Them Down, and Catch-22.

Assuming this report is accurate, Abbott will join Samara Weaving as Emma Frost, Kit Connor as Cyclops, and, of course, Sadie Sink as Jean Grey.

The reboot's core team is said to consist of the original comic book crew (Cyclops, Beast, Jean Grey, Ice-Man and Angel), but other characters, such as Rogue, Storm, and possibly Jubilee, will likely be introduced later in the movie.

Charles Melton, who is believed to be in contention to play Hank McCoy, had the following to say about the rumors during a new interview with The Playlist.

“It depends on what day or moment you catch me on, but right now I’d say I think I believe in Jake and Sunny so much, and I would love to work with them again, and many more times. They know that. I try to stay away from the fodder as much as I can. So I’ve limited myself to Googling myself maybe 20 times a day instead of 50. It was really bad before."

Sonny Lee Sung Jin (Beef) and Joanna Calo (The Bear) recently came aboard to write a new draft of Michael Lesslie's script.

Kevin Feige had the following to say about Marvel's plans for the X-Men shortly after SDCC.

"Acquiring the X-Men rights isn't just about... for example, Wolverine is an outstanding character, and we were able to team him up with Deadpool, which is great. But the X-Men are far more than just Wolverine, far more than the original team; fundamentally, it's a universe, a multi-stage saga. Much of that is what we're working towards."

"We’re constantly changing, constantly evolving, but having some guidance helps us act more purposefully, especially with X-Men—it’s already had 10 movies, some very, very good, some I think haven’t lived up to expectations—how do we plan the 'mutant saga' in a very grand way?"

"That being said, we have many more characters to explore in the future—the schedule is already booked until 2042, especially the X-Men," Feige added. "The X-Men have many unexplored characters from the Asia-Pacific region, particularly China, which we're very eager to explore. That's why I'm excited about the X-Men: we can show the world different types of heroes."

I’m open to the idea, he’s a bit younger than I’d have expected. But they want these actors to play the role for a while, so.. he’s still a bit younger than I thought they would have gone for the character.

@MuadDib - he’s 40 and the student cast seems to be in their early 20s. That seems right to me.

@cubrn - I didn’t look it up, he just looked young. If that’s the case, yeah, it could def work.

Would have liked Patrick Wilson , but yeah this could really work, he's quite a good actor.

@emeraldtaurus - Me too honestly. Probably was a little expensive for Marvel, since I'm sure Professor X is going to pop up A LOT in different movies that may not be X-Men related.

@Irregular - yep, agreed. Just seen him in Cape Fear, the show sucked but he was very good. Would make a great prof-X. Looking forward to seeing what Abbott brings to the table.

Cool. I never understood whether Professor X was English or American.

@MaximusTheMad - LOL growing up it did KINDA confused me, but I think now would be interesting to have a more "American" sounding voice for Professor X. I mean he is from "New York" after all.

Honestly if true , I don’t see Christopher Abbott as Charles Xavier but I also haven’t seen much of his work hence I’m on the fence & willing to give him a shot…

@bobevanz - Lanterns Season 1 First Reviews: A Mature, Grounded Mystery and One of DC’s Best Shows Yet

Critics say the show is anchored by strong, character-driven writing and the chemistry between Kyle Chandler and Aaron Pierre, though it may disappoint fans looking for tons of blockbuster action.

Im not hooked in this cast if true.

Marvel should be wary, it might go the F4 route.

@vectorsigma - there's nothing wrong with the Fantastic Four casting.
vectorsigma
vectorsigma - 8/14/2026, 9:05 AM
@PopBye - my wording might be confusing but that wasnt my point.

F4 and xmen both having a presence in the general audience's mind and F4 still flopping. And that is even with good casting. Aside from sadie, a lot are relatively unknown.

Also, Schrier isnt a director for big blockbusters. His indie sensibilities doesnt fit the supposed next big thing for marvel

@vectorsigma - the problem is having a dozen popular up and coming Gen Z actors, there aren't that many lol
vectorsigma

@cubrn - nope. Never heard of them before and didnt know that series they worked on

Flash forward today and i find them mediocre and Doomsday will be slop

vectorsigma - 8/14/2026, 11:57 AM
@bobevanz - i dont know if even after casting the most popular gen z today (sadie, inde?) will lift the franchise.

And jean grey's introduction has been divisive.

I know nothing about the guy, but this time feels different in where I trust Marvel 100%. It seems like this Xmen project is the start of the rebooted MCU, so they can't afford to lose. Excited to see how it all turns out.

Casting has always been the best thing Marvel does. That's not even a debate. What they should focus on is hiring writers to make THEIR own movie, not a checklist requirement of things that said writer needs to weave together like a basket
Kadara

@bobevanz - And focus on making the enemy a credible threat. Out of all the Marvel movies, Thanos and Killmonger stand out as actually memorable bad guys.
