ETERNALS Writers Reveal Ideas For Possible Disney+ Spinoff Series And Where The Sequel Could Take Us

Eternals crams an awful lot into its 150-minute runtime, delving into the Marvel Cinematic Universe's history and exploring the role they've played in this shared world since arriving on Earth 7000 years ago. 

With Marvel Studios developing both TV shows and standalone specials for Disney+ (like Werewolf by Night and The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special), it would definitely make sense to revisit these Eternals on the streaming service. As you might expect, the movie's writers, Kaz and Ryan Firpo, have some ideas for where they could take the characters on that platform. 

"We’ve even said jokingly that there should be an Eternals prequel show on Disney+. Go back and do a Kingo episode in 1890s Mumbai where he is juggling his life as a movie star, dealing with Gandhi’s peaceful dissolution of the British empire in India," Kaz tells The Hollywood Reporter. "And there’s an episode with Thena where she’s in Greece. I would love to make that show."

"There are a lot of opportunities. If the audiences allow us, there’s going to be a story to tell with Dane Whitman," the writer adds, looking to the franchise's future. "There’s going to be a story to tell in the Cosmos with the Eternals confronting Arishem and all the Celestials who are these incredible metaphors for creation. I think there’s a lot of stories in the Eternals universe."

Ryan agrees with that, noting: "It’s an exciting time to be a storyteller. With Disney+, with movies, there are so many opportunities to tell these stories and so many different formats. It’s a really exciting time to just explore new frontiers in narrative."

Only time will tell whether the response to Eternals will change Marvel Studios' plans for these heroes, but there's no way they'll be sidelined after those box office takings and the positive response from fans. The movie ended on a cliffhanger, and we're still banking on Galactus somehow being tied to the Celestials given what we learn about them over the course of this adventure.
