"Green With Evil" Take 1

I grew up as a child of the 90's. And, as such, I was brought up with the awesome "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers." Even to this day, I dig this show (The original Rangers). It takes me back to a much simpler time in my life, when I was at my happiest. So, I've been thinking, who could play these iconic characters today? I am choosing to go with the assumption that the movie would be baced on the "Green With Envy" Saga. It's my favorite part of the entire series. I'd like to be a film writer, and I am currently working on "Green With Evil" as a movie, in my view(THANK YOU BOREDOM AND TRUE NERDINESS). Now, in this list, I am including EVERYONE I feel could portray these characters. So, let me know what you think in the usual place. Here we go:

Zordon-Patrick Stewart
Nobody else can portray the "All-Knowing" floating head like Patrick Stewart can.

Jason Lee Scott(Red Ranger)-Josh Hutcherson
As with "Marty McFly," Josh is an excellent actor. He has the chops to play "Jason Lee Scott" with the strong leadership presence that "The Red Ranger" embodies.

Jason Lee Scott(Red Ranger)-Chris Pine
I've got to hand this pick over to "Ryden." I'm not sure why he didn't get picked up on my radar, but Chris Pine would be an excellent choice for "Jason," if they decided to go with an older cast. He's a great actor, for proof, watch "Bottle Shock."

Jason Lee Scott(Red Ranger)-Channing Tatum
If they were to decide to go with a more experienced actor for the role, I'm confident that Channing Tatum can pull it off. He's got the looks and the ability(GI Joe, yeah it sucked, but it proved that he can provide the action abilities needed to portray the original leader of the "Power Rangers"). Also, Channing Tatum is more than just the "classic built, muscular, leading man." Want proof, check out "Stop Loss."

Zack Taylor(Black Ranger)-Corbin Bleu
Corbin Bleu needs to have his chance to prove that he is more than just the "Dancing Disney Kid" (yes, "Zack Taylor" is known for his "Hip-Hop Kido," but it's only a small part). Like Zac Efron, I think that he has the potential to be a great actor. I think that he would fit the role like a nice pair of dancing shoes.

Trini Kwan(Yellow Ranger)-Devon Aoki
We all know that Devon Aoki can kick-ass(Sin City). She looks the part, and you definately don't want to mess with her(in a fighting situation).

Kimberly Hart(Pink Ranger)-Anna Sophia Robb
Anna can play the role of "Kimberly Hart" the way it needs to be played, sweet(Bridge to Terabithia) and a bit narcissistic(Charlie and the Chocolate Factory).

Kimberly Hart(Pink Ranger)-Amanda Seyfried
If they wanted an older actress, Amanda Seyfried would be their best choice. She can play the ditzy narcissist(Mean Girls) with a sweet side(Letters to Juliet).

Billy Cranston(Blue Ranger)-Christopher Mintz Plasse
Please, if you can think of a better actor, tell me. Christopher Mintz Plasse IS "Billy Cranston."

Billy Cranston(Blue Ranger)-Anton Yelchin
Upon further reflection(ie, I just watched "Charlie Bartlett" for the hundredth time), Anton Yelchin is the natural pick. He's a stand-out actor, and has the ability, and look, to pull this role off.

Tommy Oliver(Green Ranger)-Rory Culkin
Rory Culkin, like his brother, is a great actor(or rather, has potential). He's not really my top choice, but if they were to use a younger cast, Rory would be the top pick. On a side-note, I think that once "Scream 4" comes out, we will see A LOT MORE Rory Culkin.

Tommy Oliver(Green Ranger)-Emile Hirsch
What can I say about Emile Hirsch? What a great actor. With the exception of "Speed Racer," I love everything he's in. I think that he can be sinister as the "Green Ranger" when he's evil(Alpha Dog), and polite and funny when he becomes good(Girl Next Door). This guy is not in nearly enough movies.

Tommy Oliver(Green Ranger)-Taylor Kitsch
Taylor Kitsch got a bit of a raw deal in "X-Men Origins: Wolverine." But, I feel that he portrayed my favorite mutant, Gambit, exactly how it needed to be played. I think he's got the look, and can kick-ass.

Bulk & Skull-Jonah Hill and Michael Cera
Again, these two pals can definately portray "Bulk & Skull." Plus, Michael Cera needs to prove that he can play more than the "Awkward, Nervous Teenager."

Rita Repulsa-Lucy Liu
Lucy Liu, as we all know, can be a sinister ass-kicker when she chooses to be(Kill Bill Vol. 1). I think she would be excellent as the evil witchy nemesis to the "Power Rangers."

Lord Zedd-Willem Dafoe
I think, if there is a Satan, he would piss his pants if he heard Willem Dafoe speak. Obviously, they would get a larger actor to portray the physical, on-screen "Lord Zedd." But, they need a voice that strikes fear into the hearts of the public. And that voice belongs to Willem Dafoe.

Lord Zedd-Jackie Earle Haley
Another creepy voice, whether he be "Rorschac" or "Freddy Kruegar." Jackie Earle Haley is a scary cat that will send a chill down your spine.

Lord Zedd-Hugo Weaving
Hugo Weaving ALWAYS plays an excellent villain(The Matrix, and soon, Captain America: The First Avenger). Besides his scary, villainous glare, his voice is what seperates him from every other actor in all of Hollywood.

Most of your choices are great and oh yeah Cera did prove he could play something besides an "awkward nervous teenager" in Scott Pilgrim.

Not liking this cast man.

Both of your red ranger choices are TERRIBLE actors. Hutcherson is an ugly bland and and just geenrally crappy actor. And Tatum well what can I say, he's he's just a dumb brute....no depth at all.

@jake- I'm not sure, maybe someone along the lines of like Chris Pine or something? Chris Hemsworth would make a good red ranger or green/white in fact!

@ager: Yeah, I tried to not go just based on looks. I do think everyone of these actors have bright futures. But, I fear that I might have focused a bit TOO much on looks.

@soulhunter88: Plasse does seem to be typecast into the super nerd role. But, damn, it was like he was born to play this part. What's creepy is, I didn't pick those pictures on purpose. It wasn't until I put them together that I realized how similar they look. Dafoe is awesome, he's my top pick.

@Xenix: Jean-Luc Picard is the SHIT!

@Ryden: Damn, Chris Pine would be excellent. Chris Hemsworth looks a bit more mature than I would hope, but is a decent actor. His brother might do, but I'm not really diggin his acting(probably because I was forced to sit through "Hannah Montanna: The Movie"). Chris Pine is a great pick though... I might just steal that one from you, sir ;P

This is pretty cool man! Christopher Mintz Plasse is SPOT ON! But then again so is Yelchin, They could both do such I great job.

Stewart As Zordon is a great pic!

Although he's a pretty bad actor, I can really see Tatum as Jason.

Damn, I pretty much agree with all your choices!

I thought there's no way that a Power Rangers movie would be good nowadays but with a cast like this, It'd be great!

@Jake Overton - I'm not really sure man. Ive been racking my brain trying to come up with someone. Perhaps Ben Barnes? I dunno. I think the problem is that no one really seems worthy to me, but i guess that's a personal problem. Green Ranger is my all time favorite. Nothing beats the Dragonzord and the Dragon Dagger. But oh well. Oh and I know some people didn't like your Billy pick but I think it works. Another choice for Billy though could be Anton Yelchin, that kid's got talent (not to mention he had a three way with Amanda Seyfried and Amber Heard). LOL.
SolidSnake007
SolidSnake007 - 11/11/2010, 5:47 PM
Oh and as another little sidenote if you ever choose to do another rangers fan cast or update this one or something, think about throwing some more villians like Goldar, Scorpina, Rito Revolto, and Finster and just for kicks Ivan Ooze.
Ryden
Ryden - 11/11/2010, 7:22 PM
@Jake- No problem buddy ;) thanks for the mention...btw I forgot to say that I love the idea of Weaving as Zedd...he'd create an awesome voice.

YakeTheSnake - 11/11/2010, 9:37 PM
@MrMurdock: I definately think that this cast is the only way for a "Power Rangers Movie" to work now.

@soulhunter88: I take absolutely nothing personally. Movies are really something I care about, and I love to hear anyone's opinion on my opinions. I dig movies so much, that I give almost any movie a chance. I will go out at least once a week, and rent just random movies.

@SolidSnake007: No doubt, The Green Ranger was ALWAYS my favorite. He's the one I spent the most time thinking of. Because, although the show wasn't known for it's acting, Jason David Frank really stood apart, and made the role believable. I watch episodes now, and still feel the same.
"Alpha Dog" rocked my f*ckin sox off. Yelchin was the sh*t in it. Side Note: Justin Timberlake is really turning into a bonafide actor, it's kinda cool.

@Ryden: I gotta say thanks to you, good sir.

@EVERYONE: I really appreciate your opinions, I love doing FANCASTS. But, I really feel that everyone here should check out "Stop Loss" if they haven't yet. This is a great movie. Channing Tatum isn't the best part of it, but he proves to be more than just a pretty face. It also stars Ryan Phillipe(great actor), Joseph-Gordon Levitt(great actor), and Abbie Cornish(great actress, not in this, but in "Candy").

I was just wondering why you are trying to pick people that look like the old characters. A problem with your picks is you have some characters that are still in their teens that would be playing along side actors that are in their mid 20's. I would prob kill anyone that tried to remake the ORIGINAL power rangers as that was one of my favorite shows as a child and it seems that no one ever does any justice to the older shows. I think if anything maybe get the old characters back for a reunion of some kind where they are called on once again to protect the earth.

sweetre15 - 11/12/2010, 11:16 PM
Cool choice but I would have gotten Michael Angarano from Sky High for Billy.
YakeTheSnake
YakeTheSnake - 11/13/2010, 4:06 PM
@HUSoldier: Wow, a bit extreme with the killing... LOL. Yeah, the people I picked look similar to the original actors, but I also really believe these actors to be the only ones that can pull it off. Currently, the only person I am questioning is Josh Hutcherson as Jason. Not because he's a bad actor, but because, after watching "Vampire's Assisstant," I think he would probably fit better as Tommy. And, this list includes EVERYONE I feel to be the best picks. Like with Taylor Kitsch and Channing Tatum, I think they would fit if they chose an older cast, as stated. It would be a bad choice to have(for example) Taylor Kitsch play "Tommy" and Anna Sophia Robb as "Kimberly" since she is merely 17, and he is nearing 30. But, I am reorginizing this list to condence it, and add other characters.

PS. A reunion wouldn't work because Thuy Trang is dead, Austin St. John is out of shape, David Yost holds a grudge because he was mocked for is sexuality, Amy Jo Johnson is focusing on being a mother, Walter Jones would probably do it(but probably for too much money), and Jason david Frank is focusing on his MMA Career.
Believe me, I would love to see a reunion, and I love "The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers" as much as the next "90's Kid," but I am intrigued by the idea of a movie based on the greatest saga in Television history.
