We're back with another MCU rumour roundup, and with Spider-Man: Brand New Day in the rearview, all eyes now turn to Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars

The Cosmic Circus' Alex Perez has shared some intriguing updates today, including details on both those movies and more on what we can expect from Shawn Levy and Ryan Gosling's Ghost Rider movie. From there, we move on to what the deal is with newly leaked images of Avengers: Doomsday's "Boris" and an update on a previous leak.

Be warned that potential spoilers for several upcoming MCU projects follow from this point on...

  • Asked about Monica Rambeau's status for Avengers: Doomsday, Perez shared his belief that we likely haven't heard about plans for Teyonah Parris in the movie "to keep some characters secret," especially as there are some big surprises in store for "the third act."
  • The report adds that it's likely "Monica and Maria are out and about together on a separate story while the events of Doomsday transpire," though there's a strong chance they're in one or both Avengers movies.
  • Regarding those surprise characters, there are "a couple of Asgardians" set to answer Thor's call to arms, some of whom we haven't seen since Thor: Ragnarok. Could The Warriors Three return? Or two of them, at least? (Sorry, Zachary...).
  • While the plan was for Avengers: Doomsday to open with Spider-Man, Doctor Octopus, and the Green Goblin fighting the X-Men's Deadpool and Wolverine, it's unclear whether that's still the case. However, Tobey Maguire will appear in both that and Avengers: Secret Wars.

  • Addressing Captain America: Brave New World's confusing post-credits scene, The Leader was simply alluding to the end of the world being nigh. As for Sam Wilson, his role in Avengers: Doomsday will be "sizeable." There will also be "a nice little scene for Sam that puts to rest any doubt about who owns the shield or who is Captain America in this movie."

  • Avengers: Secret Wars will feature the "Resistance Avengers," including "the leaders (older, established figures), there’s the newbies (The younger heroes), and there’s the never-before-seen characters (there [are three at the moment]). This group of allies is going to be divided into smaller groups, chasing different stories."
  • It sounds like the Hulk we see in Avengers: Secret Wars will be the same as/similar to Thor: Ragnarok's take on old Jade Jaws.
  • Doctor Doom will be Avengers: Secret Wars' main antagonist, but he'll also be joined by "certain characters" who side with him because "they are all convinced to serve him until they're freed."

  • Asked about plans for Tom Holland's Spider-Man to get his hands on the Symbiote in Avengers: Secret Wars, Perez said that Marvel Studios is mulling over various options, including "an original take" and versions that are similar to what we saw in Spider-Man 3
  • When it comes to the Scarlet Witch, she's set to have an "important role" in Avengers: Secret Wars, given that "her power is a key element to how Doom's Battleworld gets made." Everything we've seen from the Maximoff family could be key as the Multiverse Saga nears its end.

  • Over to the Ghost Rider movie starring Ryan Gosling, and it sounds like we can expect Sacha Baron Cohen to reprise his Ironheart role as Mephisto and that Johnny Blaze will have been serving as the Spirit of Vengeance for a while when the movie begins.

  • Back to Avengers: Doomsday, and we have some intriguing insights into why "Boris" (Doctor Strange) looks the way he does as one of Doom's followers...
  • We've also confirmed that this is a legitimate, albeit AI-enhanced, image from Avengers: Doomsday. It's after the Sentinel battle, and at this point, Doom has taken Steve Rogers.

Interesting... sounds like a lot of things might change from those earlier plot descriptions, especially after the substantial reshoots. More stuff added, perhaps some things taken out, or re-worked / re-ordered...

Of course Disney will triple down on Sam as Cap no matter how badly it fails. He was a great Falcone but he’s no Steve. The only way another movie with him as Cap goes forward is if they load it with characters fans actually want to see. A true solo outing is off the table. Same with the “Young Avengers”. Fans will come see Secret Wars for their favorites and it will make money, but when they try anything with those characters alone it will be like throwing a hundred million in a paper shredder

@Bucky74 -

Yep. FalCap and the Young Avengers push are really bad ideas.

@DocSpock - Complete failures, but Disney will convince themselves that “this time” they will catch on with fans not matter what. And they’ll maybe throw Spider Man in a cameo in Young Champions/Avengers or whatever hoping it get butts in seats

@Bucky74 -

FalCap, Photon, Ms Marvel, Wonder-Man, Valkyrie, & Ironheart were not inserted into the MCU because they would make great MCU headliners.

It was about more racial representation, which is and should be a good thing. The problem happens when they shove them in just to meet quotas and handle the characters badly. The first BP movie is a great example of doing things right. The Marvels is a terrible example of doing it wrong.

They do a very big disservice to these fine minority actors when they use them badly in lousy movies/shows.

Mackie was in excellent in the 4 Russo MCU movies. But the FalCap/WS show and the last CA movie were terrible.

It’s wild the Falcon as Cap movie did so bad and they’re still hung up on it, or so it seems. A Young Avengers movie will hold little interest for most. They need to just accept people want the big characters and after so many superhero movies successes like Ant-Man and Guardians are going to be very hard to come by. X-Men will likely keep them in business, post Secret Wars and Ghost Rider with Gosling in it could do well. Any of these side character ideas, however, for feature films will just be wasting money. Their tv debuts alone prove that.

Hopefully Mephisto isn’t the only villain, they should include Vengeance or The Orb.

'Boris' is clearly Victor Von Doom's mentor and most loyal subject Boris Karela. You can see him in the Dr Doom episodes of the old 'Spider-Man' and 'Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends' animated series from the 1980s.
