As of right now, everyone seems pretty convinced that they know how Avengers: Doomsday will end. The Multiverse's Mightiest Heroes will be defeated, Doctor Doom will somehow acquire ultimate power, and the credits will roll with the villain sitting on his throne overlooking Battleworld.
That is, in fact, pretty likely. However, Avengers: Secret Wars is another matter entirely. Like Avengers: Endgame in 2019, the movie is shrouded in secrecy, but with pre-production ramping up, some potential plot spoilers have started doing the rounds on social media.
The latest claim comes from insider @MyTimeToShineH, who claims that Avengers: Doomsday ends with "not a snap, not a portal, [but] an endless nothing." They also hinted that Elizabeth Olsen has done "some more filming" for the movie's post-credits scene.
As for Secret Wars, only a handful of heroes remember what came before Battleworld, and they're the movie's "resistance."
If this leak is to be believed, Avengers: Secret Wars will be led by the three Spider-Men (Tobey Maguire, Andrew Garfield, and Tom Holland), Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds), Wolverine (Hugh Jackman), Mister Fantastic (Pedro Pascal), Vision (Paul Bettany), She-Hulk (Tatiana Maslany), and the Young Avengers.
Presumably, the latter group will comprise Ms. Marvel (Iman Vellani), Hawkeye (Hailee Steinfeld), Wiccan (Joe Locke), Speed (Ruaridh Mollica), and Cassie Lang (Kathryn Newton).
The scooper has added, "Rebels, split up, walking Doom’s domains looking for one thing that can break the spell. One finds Thor ruling a realm he doesn’t remember asking for. One finds Shuri on a throne."
If this really is the main cast of Avengers: Secret Wars, then it seems fans will get the epic Multiversal team-up they hoped for between the more iconic members of the Avengers, X-Men, and Fantastic Four.
The confirmed (or semi-confirmed, at least) cast of Avengers: Secret Wars includes Robert Downey Jr. (Doctor Doom), Chris Evans (Steve Rogers), Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Anthony Mackie (Captain America), Benedict Cumberbatch (Doctor Strange), Paul Bettany (The Vision), Letitia Wright (Black Panther), Simu Liu (Shang-Chi), Florence Pugh (Yelena Belova), and Hayley Atwell (Peggy Carter).
Also appearing are Pedro Pascal (Mister Fantastic), Vanessa Kirby (Invisible Woman), Joseph Quinn (Human Torch), Ebon Moss-Bachrach (The Thing), Sadie Sink (Jean Grey), and Noah Jupe.
The Russo Brothers direct Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars from a screenplay by Stephen McFeely, with whom they previously collaborated on the Avengers and Captain America franchises. Loki and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness writer Michael Waldron has also been enlisted to refine the story, alongside Spider-Man: Brand New Day's Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers.
Avengers: Doomsday is set to be released on December 18, with Avengers: Secret Wars scheduled to arrive on December 17, 2027.
