GHOST RIDER: Marvel Rumored To Have Big Plans For The Spirit Of Vengeance Beyond MIDNIGHT SONS

A new take on Ghost Rider is expected to make his MCU debut at some point over the next few years, and it sounds like Marvel Studios has big plans for the character...

Though Marvel Studios has yet to confirm that a new Ghost Rider will be introduced, there have been persistent rumors from a number of different sources - not to mention telling hints from Kevin Feige and Brad Winderbaum - that we will see the Spirit of Vengeance make his MCU debut at some point.

The flame-headed hero is expected to be a part of the Midnight Sons movie (whether this project will mark his first appearance remains to be seen), but it sounds like Marvel has bigger plans for the character beyond the planned - though still not officially announced - supernatural team-up film.

Daniel Richtman reports: "No one has been cast as the new Ghost Rider yet, but he is set to appear in a few projects over the next three years, including Midnight Sons."

We haven't heard any solid casting rumors (Ryan Gosling was never actually in talks for the role) for the new Ghost Rider, but Deadpool and Wolverine star Ryan Reynolds recently confirmed that he attempted to bring Nicolas Cage back as his incarnation of the character for the R-rated threequel.

"They were in early drafts. We had versions of that [sequence], but then as it shook out, you're sort of looking...We're trying to make the movie responsibly, as well. It's a big budget. It's the biggest budget of any of the Deadpool movies, but you want to give yourself as much constraint, which really I think facilitates asymmetrical thinking and creativity. If you have too much time or too much money, it usually murders that kind of creativity. So, yeah, you're shrinking things."

"But we did talk to Nic Cage," the actor continued. "We tried to get him, but he was a no-go.... I would've loved him."

We're not sure exactly why Cage declined the offer (possibly a scheduling issue), but a recent rumor claimed that the actor has since agreed to reprise the role.

The most logical project for Cage's Ghost Rider to appear in would obviously be Avengers: Secret Wars, but there have been whispers that the Renfield star could show up as the character in Spider-Man 4 (keep in mind that there have been a lot of Spidey rumors of late, and it's highly unlikely that all of them are accurate).

Could we see Cage's Johnny Blaze pass the mantle on to his successor, perhaps?

Speaking of the still untitled Spider-Man movie, Richtman also reiterates that the project is currently casting for a new love-interest (possibly Black Cat), and we should hear more soon.

Which actor - playing which version of the character - would you like to see join the MCU as Ghost Rider? Let us know in the comments section.

I just typed out a heart felt post about the original but this stupid site decided to not post it for some reason. LSS I loved the visuals, cgi fighting can be so much better with todays cgi and fight choreography.
But I’m totally looking forward to a new Ghost Rider franchise and I’m down for Keanu or Gosling to play J.Blaze.

@slickrickdesigns - Nah, Gosling needs a break, and Keanu isn't right for this imo. I think. Austin Butler would be a good choice. He'd be a better Gambit, but unfortunately that role is kinda taken.

@DarthOmega - I think Keanu could pull off a JBlaze role. I just don’t think he could do it for a full trilogy with a midnight son’s trilogy. But I think he’d knock it out the park in a couple films.

I mean , it seems obvious that if there are plans for him that GR would be in more besides Midnight Sons though if he’s set to appear in them over the next 3 years or so , I wonder what they could be if true?.

Hopefully it’s not Spidey 4 but I could see it being Secret Wars and perhaps even a hint in Ironheart if the inclusion of Mephisto is true in that.

Anyway it depends on which iteration of GR they go with but if it is Johnny Blaze then my choice is Ryan Gosling with backups being Boyd Holbrook or Luke Grimes.

Lol the writers around here really have nothing else to write about. How many articles are there about DC or Marvel having plans for their characters beyond whatever big film is up next? It’s amazing how the stories written on this website are now so predictable and how they are just repeats of either the same story or almost a copy/paste of another rumour story. Please write better or say nothing at all. Google $$$ clicks.

@MR - I think it’s moreso to do with the scoopers who seem to be for the most part regurgitating the same claims they have made before.

Granted , this site doesn’t have to cover them but still they do just in case they do turn out to be right

@TheVisionary25 - hence my point I have made earlier that this website misses out on a prime opportunity. With a URL like comicbookmovie.com is should be THE go-to website for this kind of news. It should be the place where James Gunn or Kevin Feige trust and send their minions to talk about projects. Instead it’s just a cheap rehash of some bit of tiny news that you have to scroll through the entire page just to get to and half the time (almost all of the time) it’s something that was already posted the week before. They have to do better. Like I said, Google $$$ clicks. Easy money I guess.

@MR - More often than not, the articles here are just retooled posts from different sub-reddits. Then Josh reposts his articles on reddit, completing the circle.

@TheFinestSmack - exactly. The only thing original are those shit opinions from Chandler lmao

@MR - it’s the same thing on YouTube. It’s now a business to just give useless information and opinionated things. Over and over

@slickrickdesigns - Common sense guesses are not rumors and I'm pretty sure the writers know this and just don't care.

@TheFinestSmack - yeah but that’s how rumors get started a lot of the time
TheFinestSmack
TheFinestSmack - 1/27/2025, 9:34 AM
@slickrickdesigns - true, but years ago the rumors we got seemed like they came from actual insiders. Sometimes it was wrong, sure, but now there are just a bunch of rando's claiming to be on the inside that just make safe common sense guesses with built-in 50/50 success rates in order to give just enough enough W's to seem credible.

@TheFinestSmack - oh, I totally agree… that’s my beef with a lot of these “content” creators. They just keep making things up based on guessing what will happen and their own opinions.

@TheFinestSmack - and sometimes it’s forced down the content/article pipeline to be shoveled as todays news/rumors/updates

@slickrickdesigns - Spiderman 4 rumors have been the best example. Like we know MJ is (SPOILER) kinda out of the picture because of the events of the last movie. So logically Spidey will have a new love interest. And if the comics are the loose basis of these films, then it makes sense that the new girl would be either Gwen or Felicia. How many "scoops" have we gotten about either of those two for Spidey 4? Been a lot. Then every villain they say is rumored for the film are really just villains Tom Holland's Spidey hasn't faced yet. Most rumors are just process of elimination/deduction. I really need to just create an alter ego and make scoops on twitter and then create a patreon.

@TheFinestSmack - yeah I’ve thought about making a spoof CBM account to just make up ridiculous rumors to see how far I can reach with them for fun. But then I’d also feel like a scumbag for just making up false information.

@slickrickdesigns - All I'm saying is that this place is overall SLOPPY and LAZY when it really should be an ally to the comic book movie making community.
