SNAKE EYES Star Henry Golding Says Paramount Has "Grand Plans" For The G.I. JOE Franchise

Snake Eyes star Henry Golding has weighed in on Paramount Pictures' plans for the G.I. Joe franchise, saying producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura has "grand plans" following last year's Transformers tease...

2021's Snake Eyes was meant to relaunch the G.I. Joe franchise, but the movie was a disappointment that dropped the ball on both its title character and the supporting cast.

There's been no word on a follow-up (it made only $40.1 million at the worldwide box office), but at the end of last year's Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, the stage was set for the Autobots and Decepticons to finally share the screen with G.I. Joe's heroes and villains.

That crossover has already taken place in comic books and, at this stage, it may be the only way to save the struggling G.I. Joe film series.

Talking to ComicBook.com, Snake Eyes star Henry Golding shared an update on where he believes things stand with the franchise after that post-credits scene and its recent critical and commercial struggles.

"I mean, Lorenzo di Bonaventura is a busy man and a phenomenal producer, and it's in safe hands," Golding teases. "Whatever happens, I think it's going to be a combination of what has come and what is to come. I think Paramount have some grand, grand plans."

Talking last year, Di Bonaventura shared some insights into Paramount's approach to the planned meeting of these characters.

"I don’t look at things like a universe, I look at them as a story and [the Joes] will be a part of the story. I also think the term 'crossover' means different things for different people," the veteran producer explained. "For me, the Joes, whoever they are, are entering the world of Transformers, not combining the two worlds."

"The plan is to eventually do [a crossover]. But, for the next movie, it’s the Joes that are coming in for whatever the ending of Rise of the Beasts has led us to believe is possible."

"Oh, they will interact. We haven’t developed a script yet though," Di Bonaventura added. "What I will say is just like we do with every other movie, it will be a team of Transformers and humans fighting the fight. The Joes will be a part of that."

Time will tell what happens with this crossover, especially as Transformers: Rise of the Beasts didn't exactly set the box office on fire. Should a movie see these characters share the screen, it may well be the last chance for them in theaters so the stakes will be undeniably high.

I watched last year and I was trying to figure out what people complained about this movie so much.

This guy's a good actor.

@MadThanos - only the fact that snake eyes does not wear his iconic gears and weapond until the very last minutes of the movie.

beside that i agree it was an ok martial art movie

@MadThanos - It felt like a B movie no one was gonna give a shit about so they quickly slapped on a couple of GI Joe things to try and pass it off as a GI Joe film.

I didn’t care much for Snake Eyes but the cast & characters weren’t really the issue but moreso the choppy action and such…

I wouldn’t have minded seeing their story continue with a better director at the helm but aside from the negative critical reception , it flopping at the box office was the bigger death knell to it.

At this point , I would rather we just get a live action series or a new animated show akin to Renegades (maybe bring that back).
