Green Lantern #36

Green vs. Red; or Go vs. Stop

Within the past few weeks, I have been drawn more and more into DC (with Marvel carrying "huge" story lines about Luke Cage's baby). So I found it appropriate to pick up my first Green Lantern comic, ever. I have to say I was amazed about how much I could get into the story not knowing where it began. I knew about Hal, and Sinestro, etc., but besides that I know very little. Despite this, Geoff Johns does a great job of pulling the reader in. The one fault, to me, is a little too much "ring-age" that is, we have yellow, red, green, and now blue lanterns (with an illusion to a possible purple ring). What's next? Aquamarine? I worry that's where this classic book is heading. Other than that, I'm very impressed and will definitely be buying #37 next month.

DC's art is a fickle thing to me. I've never read the Flash, because the art looks too cartoony. There's definetly a level of this in Green Lantern, but some how it fits. As a Sci-fi/super-hero story, these bold and bright colors seem much more appropriate in the vastness of space and on an incredibly violent planet. Great job to DC in pulling me from Marvel, and with books like these, its easy to see why.

7/10

EDIT: It seems as is there is going to be a massive war of lights. I apologize for my ignorance, and look forward to reading it.
