David Fincher's WORLD WAR Z Sequel Is Dead, But A New MAD MAX Movie May Be "Revving Its Engines"

We kinda figured this one wouldn't see the light of day anyway, but it's now been confirmed that David Fincher's planned sequel to Wold War Z is dead in the water. However, there may be life in Mad Max...

Paramount Pictures' World War Z sequel was scheduled to begin filming this summer, but according to Variety, the studio has decided to pull the plug and cancel pre-production.

The report doesn't go into too much detail regarding the reason for the movie being shelved, but it's believed to be something to do with the inflating budget. Apparently, the powers that be were "becoming more and more uncomfortable with where it was headed."

Brad Pitt was set to reprise his role from the first film, with David Fincher in board to direct. It sounds like there is a possibility that the movie could head back into development if the budgetary concerns are addressed.

Bad news for zombie fans, but we also have some potentially great news for those anxiously awaiting word on a follow-up to Mad Max: Fury Road.

That's obviously not much to go on, but hopefully we'll get some more details soon.

Last we heard, George Miller was not on the best of terms with Warner Bros. (to say the least), so even if The Road Warrior does ride again, there's a chance it'll be with a new director at the helm.
