Rob Zombie has been teasing his upcoming feature adaptation of classic black-and-white TV series The Munsters on social media for months, and the notoriously extreme filmmaker finally debuted a full trailer for his uncharacteristically family-friendly reboot yesterday afternoon.
Unfortunately, the teaser was not very well-received... to say the least.
Revealing how Lily and Herman met and fell in love - much to the chagrin of Grandpa and the rest of her family - the trailer is clearly attempting to recapture the light-hearted, campy tone of the black-and-white show, but the performances and cheap production values (among other things) have come in for a lot of ridicule on social media.
Looking at Zombie's previous work, this is more than likely a creative choice, but either way, it really doesn't do this first look at the movie any favors!

Starring Sheri Moon Zombie as Lily, Daniel Roebuck as Grandpa, and Jeff Daniel Phillips As Herman, the cast also includes Richard Brake as Dr. Henry Augustus Wolfgang, Catherine Schell as Zoya Krupp the gypsy queen, Cassandra "Elvira" Peterson as Barbara Carr, and Jorge as a new character named Floop, who is described as “Dr. Wolfgang’s hunchback assistant and Herman Munster’s best buddy.”
The Munsters is reportedly set for release later this year.
